Mobs, Flying, and You

So I was thinking about this in another thread I posted on, how exactly is flying and mobs going to fit together? How will flying be limited because there has to be limitations to everything or everyone will be like that guy in the South Park WoW episode.

Tried to see if anyone made another thread about this, but I didn't see anything, though I may just be blind (I blame my slanted eyes).

Anyway, from the trailers I saw, it looks like you may be able to attack GROUND NPCs while up in the air. Now, wouldn't that seem a little unfair if that is possible because not every single mob can attack air-units unless they make them able to.

I'm thinking the way they will limit this is maybe flying will slowly consume your DP or maybe flying combat will only consist of melee weapons. Now I know a lot of us have seen the G-Star Trailer and we've all seen the crazy little energy ball being fired, but maybe that'll consume a lot of DP so it can only be used once or so and if flying consumes DP, then that could screw you over if you aren't careful.

Or maybe you won't get your wings until you are at a level where all the mobs at that level and higher can somehow attack you up in the air.

Anyone else have any ideas?

Personally, I've been thinking the same thing. Maybe there just aren't any limitations, maybe there's a difference between air and ground combat? e.g. air combat increases evasion, but decreases STR?

Its hard to say whether or not you'll start off with wings. The way I see it is that while the race was defending the Tower, how did they cover the height of it? My guess is wings... the game play is during the time after the race split apart... so why would we not start with wings? *shrugs*

the npc's will probebly have magic and/or ranged attacks so doesnt matter how high you are they can still attack you and in the videos they just didnt attack for some reason :S

You know what I think would be cool? If when you make your character, you start off as a child/teen and do the training/tutorial in that stage, where you can only fly for very limited amounts of time because of weaker wing muscles. Then 10 or so years pass, your wings are developed, and you play the real game

maybe jsut a "flying bar" like perfect worlds has... that decrease when you enter a fight while flying.. that would give another dimension to the pvp tactics.

I hope there are all kinds of mobs :3 Flying mobs would be soo cool! Maybe mobs have a secondary attack that they use against flying daeva, who knows ^^

The more you level in the same area, the stronger the mobs become apparently so heads up to mobs with actual AI! I hope

I think there is no chance that Ncsoft could make somethink so much unfair i mean noway you can attack from the sky they can not attack you!I bielive that the attacks from the ground will do more dmg to flying units for alot of reasons!!
Also the npcs they must act more natural i mean not like npcs on wow that they are do the same moves all the time so it would be stupid if they stayd to take dmg from flying units without do anythink!

Well, while this is all true...those Raptor looking things, how will they handle flying units? Do they spit out venom like that cute dinosaur (even though there was no such dinosaur) from the 1st Jurassic Park?

I guess we will just have to wait and see. I'm sure NCSoft has thought of this already and I'm thinking that they will either make everything be able to attack air units because even though we might have ranged, we'll probably have to get into the same range they have to be in to attack us.

Has anyone here played FlyFF? Their flight system was pretty decent. You could go anywhere to a certain height, and could fly at lvl 20 I'm pretty sure because you got a quest. When flying you can only attack arial mobs, and only ground mobs while on the ground. This was a good idea but their arial combat system was lame

My guess its going to be handled similiar to the way CoH/CoV handles flying in combat. Travel power flying costs "x" energy while hovering costs "x-y" energy.

Not all mobs will have ranged attacks, but there will be enough of them that will make you want to get up close and personal.

Plus remember, probably not all of the player classes will have ranged attacks, forcing them to get on the ground and attack things on the ground.

With a slight power drain, plus the need for our powers flying against mobs will be a tactical concideration.

Proably though as you get higher in level and the power drain is washed out by power regen rates most of the mobs will either have flying capabilities or ranged capabilities.

I'm thinking the system will be like Flyff's. I actually hope it will be like that. Flying to my heart's content without worrying about not having enough energy would make the experience so much better.

All they have to do is say that whilst flying, you cannot attack anything not flying and vice versa.
