pure or dual?

what do you think about pure and dual classes? do you think one is better, or it doesnt matter?

I personally think that, MMORPGS are meant for massive amounts of people to play them... So it is best to have Pure classes so each class has a role in the game.


Hybrid and Dual classes , are for console games often played by 1 or 2 people , because you need all those skills yourselves because your the only one playing!!


But in MMORPG world people should have pure classes and have a role in the game world. Build friendships with tanks damage dealers and healers to create a powerful team! I find that much better then you doing everything and just saying hello to others...thats not really interaction ^_~

I think hybrids are ok as long as they are balanced effectively. This has been discussed somewhat recently in the skills thread. I prefer pure classes myself, so it wouldn't particularly bother me if an MMO was all pure. But adding a few hybrid classes are good options for players who like to solo more frequently, and they can have effective endgame roles too if the game is designed for it.

On the contrary, while its good to have classes with their own role, the massive amounts of people almost demand diversity. Not only in looks- armor, weapons, character, but also in class. No one wants to be exactly like everyone else. Yeah, it gets more complicated when it comes to balance, etc, but its indefinitely welcome.

pure is the best way too go, you have 5 other people in the party with you too do all the other stuff 1,tank 2,cast 3,buff 4,heal 5,ranged 6,curse

Exactly Alot of people are treating mmorpgs like console games your character can be costumized that was already addressed by NC soft. Youc an dye your armor and wings, in addition your armor stats are NOT attached to 1 look. You can attach different stats to any looking armor via tailors***


Hybrid classes cannot be balanced its very simple. the only way to balance hybrids is to make their skills cost ALOT of mana, this is the only effective way to make hybrids balanced but if you pump up mana usage enough to balance them then the class is useless and a pure will be much much greater.


So.. For those who want to be solo machines and be everything

Agreed on all points: Hybrid classes are the best way to make your game impossible to balance. I mean... look what happened to the World of Warcraft druids. O_o

In my experience, mmo's hybrid classes tends to be too overpowered or too weak.
in both cases, party rarely needs em.

Actually the very same day I quit wow , I was walking around just killing mobs for fun because I was thinking of quiting on Ventrilo with my guild and such, and a Night Elf druid Hit my priestess for 4,500 crits in a row in melee. this was before lvl 70... so thats how OP they were I mean I wouldn't have been ****ed if the druid didn't heal himself Fully right before death and sprint away in travel form ... Then vanished into cat ... Later on I dueled a mage with my priestess and completely trashed him.. he got 0 dmg in... So I quit on the spot.. Nothing makes any sense in wow at all... Im Glad I freed myself from that retarded game. Even If I was in the uppe rhand it was still wrong that I trashed a battle caster.. without taking at least 500 dmg..


While you have a Mage with no armor bad hit points HORRID mana management , and no heals doing less then that with 100% less survivability... Warlocks and Druids are the only classes in wow.

I'll stick with pure didn't care much for druids either and they do seem to be jacked up most of the time.

This has been discussed at length, and is getting old. I'd prefer pure classes if you want my opinion though.

My rogue kicks druids all over the shop but they have that move that stops you going into stealth which can be annoying.

Druids shouldn't be able to do all the stuff they do. It's just too much.

The fact that they can sometimes knock out more damage than a rogue is just rediculous. They should be a jack of all trades, master of non.

I'm a bit on 2 sides about this topic. I like pure classes but i enjoy some hybrid classes as they are interesting.

Shaman's are a prime example. Although rogue and mage type classes will always be my favourite. Simply because you have to give some thought about what you are doing. Rather than just run in and hit (That's you Tanks).

I'm going to go for the pure class as they can be balanced alot easier and are all needed rather than wanted.
