What WoW did was basically create a new niche in MMO gaming. Their target audience was people who couldn't handle most real MMOs and people who were hesitant about joining, what was at the time a more exclusive group, the MMO world. It's easy to understand structure and simplified gameplay allowed anyone including very young players to easily grasp it and succeed . It has very few penalties which makes the carebears happy. It's cartoony design allowed it to be run on even the crappiest of rigs. So WoW brought in alot of fresh blood to the MMO world but they drug in alot of weak players and WoW fanboys who now consider WoW to be a standard when it has really been the exception. It's success had more to do with its stroking of weak egos and coddling of sub-par mmo players than it did with the game being good. This sums up how I feel about all the whining about the game possibly being "too hard" or requiring some effort to succeed or them not making it a cakewalk so the ex-WoW players don't get overwhelmed... ![]() ![]()

I dont see WoW that bad... They open an MMO to a new kind of player, not too much other MMO can be played by casual. Of course its not a good challenge for hardcore gamers that are use to played hardcore MMO. The good thing is that WoW made the market of MMO much moving, i mean more company want to create MMO and take all those players from WoW.
The problem is all those new MMO, like WoW, want to have those casual and not only Hardcore gamer. Casual are the biggest part of players and they pay the same price for playing less than an hardcore gamer, they just want to make money and its normal. Now MMO are experimenting some new gameplay and content in order to satisfied both casual and hardcore. I think Aion go in this way, taking good things from L2, WoW and other MMO. It may be not the perfect MMO bt should be better and continu to make MMO games evolve. I cant say WoW was bad for me at all. Its change the mind of a lot of people about MMO and video games in general. And unlike some article about WoW or video games from some stupid reporter that know nothing about what they are talking about, people dont see those games in a bad way. As an example from my personal life, im working in video games industry, i was level designer and for moment im now freelancer. My parents didnt know too much about video games, but my mom began to play WoW just for curiosity (and she knew absolutely nothing about computer), and finally she continu play, even more than me... But now she know what is video games and what is my job, she see that in a completely different way. I think this is the same for a lot of those casual player that WoW attarcted and i dont think its bad. I can understand hardcore gamers anyway, and i really hope that MMO will be better and better. I also like the graphics evolution in MMO, im kind of players that like to explore and discover the world in MMO. Just travel here, climb this mountain and trying to find place where no other players went before ![]() |

Also, all those dumb players only hopping on once a week make it so that the MMO you play remains cheap to play and still gets updates. Have you seen all the dead MMOs out there? Looks like a battlefield with WOW in the middle eating everyone's lunch. Blizzard knows how to make people happy (in general) and people pay them for that. At the end of the day a MMO is not a game, it's a business model that needs to make a profit to keep going - you need the masses to like it; that is unless you only want uber-leet people playing and paying $1500/month for the right to do so. ![]() |

Well, hopefully Aion will keep away the little kids because I truly wouldnt want to see a great game like this get brought down by immature players...
Let WoW keep all of them, or Warhammer when it comes out.... |

And don't forget GW2 ... GW was a bit too easy, but its numbers show a following of over 5 million, and its free to play. GW2 will feature: - dazzling graphics (close to or on par with Aion ... or so I hear) - a constantly changing PvE event driven system - revolutionary party dynamics - free-range movement (including jumping and climbing) - persistent zones like WoW and L2 - quest based leveling - free to play - playable races never before seen in the MMO universe (I like the imagination of not sticking with dwarves, elves, etc) ... plus there is Warhammer ... and the existing WoW and L2. Aion will have serious competition, and I expect the population of Aion to fluctuate dramatically since GW2, SGW, WHO and Aion will all be releasing around the same time.
