Also, questing can be fun, but endless questing without anything else tends to grind (which is a perfectly acceptable usage of the word grind!) It gets boring to kill the same things 100 times just to get some items, gw might make you kill 20, which takes 5 mins...in wow an almost identical quest will take 1/2 an hour, with a similar or smaller reward... blame this on 'noobishness' if you like, but in WoW you have no henchmen/heroes to help you out... perhaps membership of a really huge guild is necessary...

Oh and speaking as a relatively casual gamer, WoW does not give quick boosts, instead requiring huge time input to get to 70... e.g. 100+ hours or a lot more... which will grind to a casual player.... if it takes you more than 10 logins to gain a single level you get kinda bored.... maybe you guys have a huge amount of free time but there are people who don't....
you seem to be the kind of people that gona complain if you're Tamagoshi die because you are too casual to feed it.

how can you compare a quest system in a game you actually BEAT in a few days (GW) with a mmorpg where the storyline doesnt end as long as there is people to develop patch/addons/content ?

You honnestly should consider playing something else than a mmorpg if you think WOW takes too long to lvl.

I think WoW takes too damn long to level. I don't have "days" to spend on a freakin' game. I bought GuildWars THE DAY IT CAME OUT and I STILL HAVEN'T BEATEN ALL THE MISSIONS. And then I bought Factions and got stuck on a mission again.

Maybe you should consider the people who don't live on their PCs, who have jobs, college to go to, places to bike-ride to, books and magazines to read, places to go eat, and other regular things to do. Thanks.

YES Mark!!! Somebody agrees with me!

The point is, why make a quest take 1/2 an hour when you'd get the same amount of fun if it took 10 mins? That just stretches out the fun... making it boring.

GW is good cos you CAN log in for 10 mins and still do a quest, or log in for 30 and do a mission, and in an hour you can do a mission and get to the next one, and have Achieved something in that time. It still takes 50ish hours to complete the campaign, and there is no (real) grinding... you are always moving on.

I gave up WoW cos my character spent 6 hours at level 27 in the same, boring area trying to go up one level.... which was just plain boring.

Telling us that the many casual gamers shouldn't play at all just because of the few people who can waste all day every playing games is ridiculous... we play online games to have fun with other people in our free time, it does not rule our lives...

I do not mean this aggressively, this is just me being defensive against unfair comments clearly aimed at myself.

WoW has general themes, but is not nearly as in depth... which means that playing GW is fun just to do the quests and follow the story without reading every line... while this makes WoW very boring... perhaps you cannot count it as grinding but still... WoW is not as involving imho.

Oh and I said hard to level, not hard to get to grips with...

I think that I would have to agree with Kyuzo. There are, and will be, pluses and minuses to every game. This also includes any grinding that you may have to do.

Well if the grinding is fun grinding it won't matter

It's just that if it's broing (and there is something very boring about WoW) then its no fun, which means that grinding is not ok...

Might I point out that runescape grinding was actually great fun...

I find that hard to believe. And yes, I actually did *play* that horrible *game* for about a week.

Grinding can be fun if you are working towards a goal while grinding, and don't grind for the grinding itself. I wonder what goal you had in runescape.

Sorry, gotta disagree.

WoW is in fact extremely easy to level, even for a casual gamer.... playing it 2-4 hours a night... i got to 70 within a month. The key to leveling in that game is questing, and doing the right quests. As you remember NCsoft has stated that Aion grind will be a bit harder than WoW, i don't know how your gonna survive the grind :P

PS: Yellow mood today! ftw!

No offense, but 2-4 hours a day is a hell of a long way off casual. Casual is like 2-3 hrs a week...

Meh a harder grind than WoW...I wonder what that means exactly? Like I said before, If you still lvl quickly (i.e. every 2 hours) then it'll be fun, but spending 6 hours at a low level is seriously offputting...

WoW had Pathetic quest rewards...

Oh and it still took a while even with a lvling guide...

Wow = easy to lvl L2 is a harder grind.....AION is in the middle.....if they make AIOn grind to easy then whats the point in making the game to start off with
