Aion Cryengine 1

I was wondering,

Since Aion uses the cryengine 1 from crytek will the new patches and updates etc once we playing the game will be from the cryengine2.
I read on crytek site they made another deal with ncsoft for the use of cryengine2, has anymore more info on it?
if Aion is also gonna use cryengine2 then omg.

Ooh baby.

Aion is going to use CryENGINE 1 for probably it's entire lifespan, whatever that is.

I can't find on Crytek's site where it says they made another deal with NCsoft, but I do see another amazingly interesting article (thanks to Kotome): Crytek GmbH, Korean Developer XLGames Selects CryENGINE 2(R) for Their Newest MMO Project , pressrelease

Yes, some awesome dude, father of Lineage it seems, broke off from NCsoft and made his own company. Now he's bought a license for CryENGINE 2 and wants to make a game to compete with Aion. IS THIS CRAZY AWESOME, YES/NO?!

No, the deal isn't with NCsoft but with a competitor who used to work for NCsoft back in 2003. This means Aion has been in development for about 4 years, and a 2008 release wouldn't be out of the question. (Thinks about a certain article *stares at Mark* )

Ayase, if you read this, would it be ok to talk about it? Or shall we end up calling it the “Game who should not be named”?

Yes, thank you for bringing it to my attention. It seems like I'll have another fansite to look forward to building. Wish I knew the name of the game.

It depends if it's crazy awesome or not, so far I wonder what could possibly compete with Aion honestly, it better be better then good. Plus I really want to love Aion -.-

Mark, i found the announcement on here
Crysis.eu [MMORPG based on Crysis Engine]
They talk about a game currently in development i thought right away of Aion.
could it be possible they change to Cryengine2 ? , it is possible i think, it also would explain why the release is in 2008 Q2

a friend of mine was on the games convention in Leipzig and visited the Aion area, besides that it was very nice but he slighty got disappointed when they said they Aion is to be released on 2008 Q2.

I'm not sure if Aion could be "upgraded" to CryENGINE 2. Other MMOs have "upgraded" themselves, like DAoC (Dark Age of Camelot) from Gamebryo 1 to Gamebryo 2 (or whatever, I just know it's Gamebryo something, an older version of the engine Elder Scrolls: Oblivion runs on). I guess it's possible, but it would take a while for Studio 5 to redo all the textures and models and whatnot. Perhaps an expansion in the future could upgrade the game.

its a possibility yeah, or they just implent it so they can switch to engine 2 with a single patch, i mean on engine 1 its already awesome, imagine Aion on engine 2 then u get things like crysis online, dam need more holiday days then xd.
I also heard they talked on the convention about beta starts round november, ill try to locate the source of this aswell cuz sofar its just hearsaying of whats been said on the gamesconvention

ShuGo- Last I heard closed Korean beta was October-ish

And I absolutely adore the CryEngine in any form. It seems logical that code and baundaries, etc could be imported, unharmed into a new version of the same software, but like Mark said, it may be a matter of re-doing textures. UNLESS the textures they imported are higher quality already and they had to lower them to fit Engine 1. If they signed a contract with the makers of Cry years ago, there very well could have been word to them that they were developing an upgrade to their engine already.

It could have been as simple as NC needed to start development of the game, so they started with Cry1 but with everything in place to upgrade until 2's compleation. I can't imagine Aion has been in production longer than Cry2

There was an MMO for the Cryengine 2 announced a while back to be some sort of 'Second Life' style thing based on a terraformed Mars. Think of the film Total Recall in CryEngine2.

I'll find the source in a sec.

EDIT: Not my original source but here is the story

CryEngine2 MMO

i think cryengine 2 is supposed to have better AI and environmental interaction support than Cryengine 1--which for me would be the selling point of upgrading to cryengine 2 at some point. the graphic enhancements are amazing too, but what i crave in an MMO is far more environmental and AI interaction than we have seen in previous MMOs. more physics! tho i love me some spectacular graphics. that's what drew me to AION first and i just keep falling in love with this game more and more as more information is released.
