Encoraging social...ness
many MMOs have stopped encouraging social activities in MMOs, they seem to be more about soloing now a-days then the olden MMOs
in FFXI and in EQ, my friends lists where HUGE. in WoW, i only had about 5 people on it, i just didnt know that many people. and i really do think it is because of grouping. my question is... how frequent would you like grouping to be high valuable? i personally would want solo EXP to be very slow, i prefer grouping, because even if it is abit hard to set up, it can be fun with the right people. so solo exp, while you are waiting for a group...

I don't want to be forced to group with people. Don't get me wrong, I like some pick-up groups in GuildWars (not all), but I normally don't have a guild to call upon for help. Don't tell me I should. I don't like guilds. I want more large-scale events that require no grouping, just rudimentary teamwork. I want large-scale PvP battles where no one is giving commands, people just know their jobs and how to do them. I guess this is a side effect of me playing one too many Halo team deathmatches or capture-the-flag games with people I've never met and probably will never meet again. I dunno. I like being casual and not being around the same people all the time. My friends lists in most games are empty. Sometimes I have one or two people on them, but not often (and they get deleted if I don't see them on for a while).

If you're talking about XP, my answer is never. Dont want to be forced to group any more than I want to be forced to solo. Without choice they will lose an entire audience base, which would go against a concept "aiming at a casual audience", who want to log in a couple hours a day and feel productive.

I like hanging out with friends in games, but if I want to get something done, I resort to a PUG, or if I'm in a guild, ask for help there.
But I'm not that into guilds. Normally I make my own for my group of friends, but obviously they never succeed and so I get bored with them. I'd rather just have a well-constructed friendslist. |

I'm torn on this. You see, whenever I start playing a new game, I have a good 3-5 people who come with me. We've all been playing games together since Jedi Knight II and though I've never met any of them, we talk all the time like we've been best friends for years. I always have them to rely on, therefore I dont often need a PUG. But I also like to do my own thing and/or solo occasionally.

There should be a good enough reason to group with others. Some people want to login for half an hour each morning to kill some monsters, maybe do a quest, before heading off to work. I’m pretty sure Ken Choi said something along the lines of “there will be quests for those to want to solo” I’m hoping skill chains will be an awesome incentive for partying though.

I don't want to be forced to group. But, I would like any MMO I play to have the kind of downtime that makes grouped XP a much more ideal situation. Part of the reason I am looking for a new MMO right now is, because I want to be in a real game community and not somewhere that me and a few friends play only with each other and the only good thing about other people is that they are there to PvP with.
I would at least like to see some raids/quests that require 2 fg or more so that at a minimum a game has a requirement for a healthy guild community if nothing else. |

75 PLD LFG...
2 hours later... 75 PLD LFG... 2 hours later... 75 PLD LFG... I was the second NA on my server (and 5th overall) to complete PLD relic armor from Dynamis (including Xarc) and that's after having taken 6 months off from the game. I was well-respected and well-equipped...sometimes that's just how FFXI is if you want to go exping and you don't log in at just the right moment. I never want to return to those days again. |

I think i only ever got up to 71 or so in FFXI way back when, but I remember a few times waiting hours and not getting a group as a rng. But as i think back between my experiences in WoW and FFXI, FFXI's forced groupings just made for a better community. If you were a good player, people would look for you to group up again the next day. There were more closer friendships then in WoW, at least for me. If you were a bad player or had a bad attitude you wouldnt be getting groups too often. In WoW its all solo work until you get to 18-20 and then you LFG for the first isntance (deadmines/not sure horde side) and you run that a few times until you get the loot you want or finish the 2-3 quests, then its back to soloing again in a new zone. Rinse and repeat. You could solo the whole game if you wanted to which lead to alot of high lvls with bad attitudes and no social skills or respect to the fellow player.
I think FFXI forced grouping after lvl 10 without being able to solo at all was a bit extreme. But I think it also made the game a great community. What i would like to see in Aion would be a FFXI grouping style with skillchains and all, but also on option to solo. But by soloing, you wouldnt get as much exp as people grouping. Basically i want it like FFXI but with more exp, but also the option to solo, just at a slower pace. That way the people that just want to solo CAN solo, albeit not as fast as grouping, but they can.

1) The bold part is your problem. :3 (Some good PLDs have nice DD setups though) 2) Aion should have a very top-notch search system, for tracking where other players are, and various stats. For example, level, location, and class. After playing FFXI I couldn't imagine living without one.

I don´t mind grouping or anything, but sometimes I just prefer to be able to do things by myself.
Also when groups are necessary, there will always be those `perfect setups` Anyone who has a class that doesn´t fit in that setup won´t be able to get things done. That was my experience from FFXI anyway, sometimes had to wait for two whole weeks before getting a group to do something

Yeah well I wouldn't classify myself as a ***** but I have been forced many times to ignore everyone so I could actually read the Trade Channel, I couldn't keep up with all the PM's :X.
I like group-oriented mmorpg's, there's nothing more fun than going into a deep dungeon with a couple guildies, what I hate is waiting to find a group, I know it will happen but I'd like to avoid waiting more than 30 minutes to get a group. I like solo because all the loot that drops is mine but it can get incredibly boring at times. |
