Yea, it would be nice to get a real translation, but I think I get most of it. Few random things on my mind.


Apparently, closed beta phases will still be going next year.

There is some information pretaining to player wipes, but it's worded so strangely I have no idea what it's saying.

They are only testing on weekends?

They are testing the overall game, still early in development (possibly Asmodian content to be tested in parallel?).

Flight and combat is higher priority then content?

Player models are 2,000 polygons? I think thats the amount Lineage 2 used.

One server holds 5,000 players?

Right, Ken Choi mentioned at Games Convention 07 this too.


It seems the game is pretty optimized at this early stage of dev. if it can run with 20fps with a Geforce 5700. But who wants to play low detailed game?

yea but how are the servers working ? is that 5k for both factions or does they have they own "safe" world and both only met in the abyss ?

1 Atreia/server = every server is a whole new world of Aion.
You can choose 1 faction/server, so pvp will be honest, without spies.

That would be the total population of the server including both factions who are playing on a given server. You might be thinking in terms of zones, and while any given game uses multiple servers to load balance, it all makes up a single server cluster representing one "server" that we are familiar with when looking at the list during login.

I'd really like to know whether they intend to use a server channels, I'll provide an example for those unfamiliar with the term. You make a char on a server and you can freely log into any channel in that server which is a full instance of the world.

Ex
Server A
- Channel 1
- Channel 2
- Channel 3
Server B
- Channel 1
- Channel 2
- Channel 3

Since a majority of the game will be in the abyss, I think its 5k all around.

I really really really hate that system, I hate it enough to the point where, if they announce it, I'll never ever think about the game again. For me, when my friends log on one channel, and I'm on a different one, and I wanna play with them, I have to log out and switch channels. It's a massive hassle, and it can split a guild up easily. It's not a system for Aion.

There will always be spies, even if the game doesnt allow it. For example, running a second account.
As it stands currently, Aion will not have instances/channels in that sense. Roughly speaking, 90% of the world will be persistent. Instances will be used only in situations where they are needed, in order to emphasize and portrait a character's story development - in main storyline quests or things of that nature.

Edit: The '5000' is on a 'concurrent players per server' basis.

Glad to hear it, Ayase.

Tabula Rasa's Beta was a Channel nightmare. More than once a friend and I would transport at the same time and and I'd say, Ok, go to wilderness 2 and he's reply he was already at 1 with no way to change it without entering another damn channeled world and coming back. Quite annoying.

All I could gather from this was basically, "if you don't reset characters, people are more likely to stay and test instead of starting over." And the reply made it sound like they want to "see how things are shaping depending on the user level"

Pure speculation, but thats what I gathered, anyway.

I was having my lunch break when composing the previous reply, so let me now elaborate on the rest of the Q&A, in order to prevent excessive confusion:

* There will be no character reset during CBT.

* The Asmodian lands will enter testing in December.

* An Aion novel is to be released.

* Most likely a 15+ age rating.

* The game client size is currently around 6 GB.

* As mentioned, with a GeForce 5700 you'll get an estimated, proud 20 fps.

* Each tester gets 10 hours of "testing time" during weekends which he/she can distribute him/herself.

* A character model is made up of around 2,000 polygons.

* Each server will be able to host 5,000 concurrent players.

* A customizable/"Open source" User Interface is still under consideration. The problem is that it could open up opportunities for hackers and malicious tools (exploitation).
