Stigma System
Will this system be setup kind of like materia from FF7? Pretty much equipment or your person will have sockets or slots that you can put a set number of daeva memory spheres (or whatever) in to give you different abilities than your original class specifications? Is that pretty much what I'm pulling from the Q&A? So there is a daeva memory thing to let you equip platemail on a Elementalist and a Fighter can cast offensive spells?

Good thread idea, I'm looking forward to what people have to say about the stigma system.
I'm very worried and excited by it at the same time, I think they could make characters cool and unique, it could also make certain combos very op. Last edited by Postiez; 10-29-2007 at 11:22 PM. |

They said there will be "limitations" but no specifics as of yet. My take on it is that only certain abilities will be available through stigma or only certain abilities will be available to certain classes, or both. Also, someone mentioned in another thread that it's likely each ability will be a slightly weaker version of the one available to the original class. I'd support any/all of these options, just to make sure everything stays balanced. As much as I'd like to have a chain stunning, teleporting, self-healing fighter... it just seems like it might be a tad OP.

Ya, if they do it well and have a lot of limitations, it will work out really well and be really fun.

The only way the Stigma system would truly be fair would be that the skills obtained would be lesser than the original ability of it's origin class. Teleportation would be a shorter distance or stealth have a higher detection rate. The Stigma System I believe will make each character tailored to the owners gameplay style. This system alone has reignited my want for the game to come out earlier than projected release dates. I'm tired of characters all being the same because of the impossibility to tailor them to the individuals liking. Also with this system I don't believe there will be a dominate class over class balance. WoW example: Warrior destroys Hunter, Rogue destroys cloth and so on. Each character will be unique and there is no set order of skill use to defeat a class. All PvP battles will be different because one class can have the different Stigmas that will require a different way to defeat each individual player of the same class. This should make things interesting and more than just doing skills in a certain order.

When I first heard about stigma, I thought the idea of having a plate wearing mage running around or a ranger using an elementalist pet might be pretty cool, but then I read this interview which said that the stigma system was like the materia system FF7. It's kinda weird how he didn't mention the class mixing at all, I wonder if the class skill dealie is just something that's endgame that he didn't quite get to. :S

This is ery interesting topic. But tell me, has anyone seen a post declaring some of teh "stigma gems" will let you wear plate, or heavy armors? Because teh way im reading this it's something that lets you use another Daeva'a memory of an action, for example see you can have a memory like telportation or casting fireball or using taunt/provoke but putting on armor? That one just doesnt seem like it will work to me. I would imagine it being one of the limitations.
In any case this has the ability to add a lot of customization to the gaem and hopefully it works out very well. It will keep pvp interesting to say the least and add a wealth of possiblities to pve. Hopefully it is done well at release.

You can use Ctrl+F to look for the word "stigma", should jump you right to the relevant part. |

What would that be? A Blessed Scroll of Escape Stigma in L2 terms?
