Lineage 2s grind was way to steep and the change you would see in how fast or slow you gain exp depending on level was really lame. the spikes and lows were odd. A nice even level grind like wow would be nice. The thing is if the grind is to hard and the added features to the game like crafting and mini games and such are fun enough to distract you. You will fall behind the grind and not enjoy the full game. Lineage was like that you either farmed, grinded, fished, or pvped you could not do a fair ballance of all unless you have no life.

Just to point this out - the grinding most people are against is the monotonous grind that doesn't need any skill and is soloable all the way through until max level. What people want is complex Skill-dependant character growth. If that would be still some sort of grinding most of people wouldn't mind it at all, as long as it's interesting and player skill dependant and require's missions or quests or say, content overall to go on (comparable to FFXI's Grinding and Genkai quests to break through the next level limit - which is my opinion had the best grind MMORPGs ever had). The grind as it is in pretty much any MMORPG is just button smashing and beating up million of very simple mobs until you reach one of your final goals. I mean... that's boring and is in fact not worth to be played, as the major gaming experience of the game tends to be made of very low gameplay quality.
Variety and gameplay quality is what people are asking for. Last edited by Endrance; 04-21-2008 at 09:32 AM.. |

i love grinding, you pick up new items and sometimes you pick up new gear especially when you start on a fresh server. It is like working out, the progress takes a while for you to notice; that's what separates you as a stronger player from the weaker players.

Let me ask you a few questions. How many MMORPGs have you played yet? Which games did you play and how long have you played them? Last edited by Endrance; 04-21-2008 at 03:27 PM.. |

I love grinding at times, other times it's just annoying. In FFXI, the grind never was too much for me, I loved it all, because grinding wasn't easy. It took a good group of players to be effective and worth the time so it was never boring (for the most part). With games like 2moons and other F2Ps that I've tried trying to find a solid game to play, the grind has been so ridiculously easy that it was boring after Day 1 of playing, and it was more like a job rather than a GAME to play, which is just horrible.
If they make grinding somewhat challenging, meaning you can't just walk out, spam skills, and level up efficiently, then I think I'll be fine. I will have a problem, however, if people who do that can keep up just fine with people like me who like to have a much more strategic and organized grind. This can mean partying, or even soloing (Which I love from time to time). For Aion I really plan to mix it up, and the second something turns from being enjoyable to a strain, I will go to a new area, or take a break to farm or whatever to make sure I don't burn myself out |

You can't have a rational conversation about a subject without first qualifying the topic, and responding accurately to the subject. This is why the topic has gone on so long, with people saying they hate grind, and other people saying they like or accept grind, wile mostly describing how they like lots of character development that doesn't involve grind, and a few people who are simply enrolled in the rewards no matter how bad the grind is. This topic would have ended a long time ago if everyone recognized and understood the meaning of grind instead of bringing their own personal definition of the term to the subject. Research grind.

I have some tips for healing what I like to call "Grinding Rigor Mortis". *Puts out white mage outfit and brandishes a staff*
1. Listen to your MP3/4 player! From rocking tunes, classical melodies to audio books you are one battery charge away from audio entertainment. Don't have one? YouTube makes a slow, but reliable jukebox. 2. Any webpage that offers free long videos. Anime, TV Series or something steamier, setting one to play behind your program can help alleviate some of that rigor mortis! Talk to me on my AIM for some links! 3. A book. NO, WAIT! I'm serious. Books aren't horrible people! If you are on the forums you can obviously read! Pick up a book, you might enjoy it. And for those non believers who think someone can't grind and read at the same time I do it pretty often on WoW. Mostly cause WoW doesn't take a lot of brain power. 4. T.V. Need I say more? 5. Handheld games. DS, GBAs, PSPs. They can be endless entertainment, and most of them again don't take a lot of attention. Might be a bit tricky with the whole two handed thing, but I have confidence that if you are bored enough you can do almost anything. 6. Take up doodling. No, I'm serious. Stop laughing! Keeping a piece and paper and a pencil nearby usually helps me, that way I can take down notes or doodle a bit. Helps me from alt tabbing to check up on coords or something. 7. ...Uhm... I'll think of more later if anyone seems interested.
