Yes, you need something that divides players.

It's art and skill to make a game where you don't have to grind 24/7 but not lvl to max lvl in a blink of an eye.

Which will always be time and effort. Level treadmills are a necessity to the mmorpg genre.

Grinding can be both boring and fun. It's fun when you got a group and just grinding away and then pvp happens. Pvp makes grinding fun.

I got used to playing L2, so I kinda got used to excessive grinding. I like how long it takes you to reach max lvl in L2, but I think L2 could have been more quest orientated (i.e. giving serious exp for quests, of which currently 99.9% of quests in L2 don't give), high lvl raids in L2 should have given huge exp bonuses, successful sieging of forts and castles should give exp bonuses.

I don't think grinding is a bad thing, its just I would like to do more than just grinding to reach my next lvl.

Humm, maybe the following break down...

Experience sources in-game:
- 35% grinding
- 35% questing
- 10% raiding
- 10% sieging
- 5% PvP (as in you get a small amount of exp per player kill in PvP arenas or 1v1 in field of play)
- 5% in-game events

I think that the game should "start" at max level.
Raids, sieges and such should not exist before max level so people are forced to get to max level to get that content.

I recently started playing CS, don't ever talk about being good at MMORPG's, good =/= time in MMORPG's.
It's an undeniable truth, oh and btw GATz, you're going on my KOS and blacklist just because of your obnoxious personal info under your avatar.

And unless the fighting is similar to FFXI's style, then, IMO, grinding will not be remotely fun. It'll be like WoW's grinding, which bored the **** out of me all the way to lv.70

Edit: I'm even currently listening to FFXI's battle music -.-.
I second this in FFXI the grind was not nearly as bad as what people make it out to be, I have 9 lvl 75 classes on my toon and the only grind that took long was the first time I grind to 75 paladin because of the limit break quest FFXI has every 5 lvls after 50. I think all the grind cry babies have been spoiled by WoW and so has MMO's in general I got to lvl 80 in AoC in 10 days and I work 45 hours a week and help the police activity league teach boxing to kids, that really sad that MMOs are now way to damn easy to reach max lvl and all I did was solo quest to 80, I really hope Aion does the grind like Vanguard (the only thing I think was good in the game), where they make questing+mob grinding work together, in Vanguard you quest to lvl 20 then the quest you get to get good gear and such lead you to areas where the mobs are meant to be killed by groups to get quest done areas like Dargon's Tomb and Cortie Infenium sanctuary where solo is a waste of time. I'd like the grind in Aion to be like that.

P.S. I hope my English was ok I'm from Japan but moved to USA

Yes, FFXI group leveling was perfect IMO. During the game I will admit that there were times where I wished I could just go out and solo instead of seeking party in Jeuno or some thing, but after playing other games thats what I miss most about FFXI, is the group content and the fact that you couldn't just solo grind to max level in 3 days like AoC and other games. Also when you finally hit max level it actually meant some thing, and not everyone on the server has 3+ max levels after the game has been out for like a year.

For me I would prefer to grind with a group than to just sit in a spot by myself grinding, I think it also forces people to really learn there job in group grinding and prepares you for end game raiding.

I quite enjoy grinding, depending on how repetitive it is. I enjoyed it in L2 for quite a while but towards the level cap it really started to feel like a chore and wore me down. I quite liked it in EQ1, EQ2.. Other games have made it far too easy to level.
