Who doesn't know this situation: You're looking for the golden srcewdriver and there are only a handfull of mobs dropping it, all your friends got one and you spend ages grinding and have absolutely no luck! That drives me crazy, no fun at all!

A large part of the people who have a lot of time to grind are usually in that "noob group". Grinding a lot does not make you into a good player. Though I agree with you on the other part. I hope it takes some time to get to max level. I want to be able to play Aion for longer than a month before I reach and have to spend the rest of my time grinding the same end-game stuff over and over again (WoW style).
I enjoy grinding in a team that works together and who can still have fun at the same time. I do not enjoy grinding as a overly serious team for items (WoW). I HATE grinding alone. I don't have the patience to grind without company. That is just pure boring. A MMO that is built in such a way that it requires you to team up is what I like. It can get tedious to kill the same mob over and over again, but as long as the developers of the game add variations to each area with dynamic mobs it won't be a problem for me. |

"Talking about removing grind from MMO's is all very well until you think about it because grind is the only thing that keeps people playing MMO's for so long and removing it will be like removing the crazy from Richard Garriott. Besides every MMO so far has had it's grind right up the bum and it doesn't seem to stop people playing them. Some people just like that sorta thing i guess?" - Yahtzee

Long grind = high lvls pro's?...hell no. It takes almoust 0 skill to level up your char, it just consumes **** load of time that you could be doing something else.
(A.k.A high level mass pvp? sieges? those are something that actually even require some sort of clan organization skills) Long grind = more bots + Only peoples who dedicate 1-3 years of their life will reach the top without botting (lineage 2...) Short grind with lots of content = Casual and HC players can enjoy it... Also MMORPG could be done without actual grind... No levels.. only gears you would get gears by completing dungeons. :F

it doesnt require much skil to lvl in L2 indeed beside dedication, but at least you can pretty much make the difference beteen someone that jsut ebayed hes lvl 80 HE with someone that actually lvled him up. that the point of lvling so you dont come screw up other fun with you re high lvl toon that you dont even know how to play.you dont know what i mean ? go join pickup groups with fresh lvl 60/70 in wow that arent rerolls. ![]() |

I enjoy grinding. In some games, it's not as easy to grind (i mean grinding faster than most people). You got to find ways, what in the game mechanics allow you to do massive pulls, find the right gear to do so.
Granted it's dumb when everyone starts to know the "fast ways" but I enjoy looking for these fast ways. 2-3 months to reach max level seems a bit short to me. Half a year would me satisfying me much more.

I dont mind a grind that takes some real skill, which really does seperate the good players from the not so good...
Also I dont mind a Semi-Long grind, just stop the game cap being reached within a week, and therefore all PvP being boring since everyone is at the level cap. I like it when people are at different stages. On the other hand I'm not wasting 2 years off my life although which may be fun - could be years of work gone when they decide to turn those servers off. Just remember its not real, and most of the time not worth spending YEARS of time getting some different colour pixels which wont last forever. IMO games are worth playing, but not worth being made life. Grind makes games a life, which is suckage. I'd rather be gettin laid than grinding, put it that way. |
