As for L2, the macros are very very fragile in terms of getting interrupted. If you even select a target while using a selfbuff macro, you will stop buffing.
You cannot loop macros or string them together. There is a maximum amount of lines you can enter, I think it's 12 but can't remember. With all these restrictions combined, there is no way to automate gameplay without resorting to illegit 3rd party programs anyway, but you still have plenty of freedom to make "normal" macros. Macros seem kinda pointless at first, but once you start getting into the game you start wanting to save yourself a few keypresses on the common strings of commands you regularely perform. In L2, I have a macro which when pressed summons my pet, press it again and I mount it, press it again and I dismount + equip my weapon. All in one slot on my hotbar. This would normally occupy a lot of buttons/shortcuts. Some other ones that saves me just the odd keypress is use a skill which sacrifices HP + Health potion, equip weapon used for certain buff + buff + equip normal weapon + attack, swap my entire armor set, a bunch of chat shortcuts like "Assist me to attack %target" and whatever other stuff you'd typically want to communicate, since you're not always on vent with everyone but just don't have time to type while fighting. |

Oh cool, I have this same kind of thing in CS. It puts the crosshair on their head and all I have to do is press mouse1. I can even set it to shoot by itself, all I have to do is run across the map. This is the same thing right?

I hardly see how these type of macros can be compared to an fps aimbot. All they do is save you a few keypresses on common strings of actions.
Unless you're implying that having to manually type out "I'm poisoned, please purify me" is a fun and engaging test of skill, where as hitting the chat macro for it is cheating. |

No. I just happen to know how the macros actually work in L2 (and we get a system that looks the same in Aion). Especially macros like the one Postiez wrote.
Ok, maybe he CAN kill someone with it. If he's 40 lvls higher then the victim... and get a kill with the first skill/shot. |

Just so you guys know, I've made a Wiki with jameinkaiser's information about Macros. So, if you guys have anymore important information regarding those, be sure to add it to Wiki or send it to me.

o.O i fail to see how this comment was relvent to Postiez's comment. He was talking about macro-ing a semi-bot for hunting mobs where all you had to do was push teh mcro button then watch some tv turn around push teh button again etc... he even said he'd adjust the autoattack timer to however long it takes him to get teh mob down. I hardly see how you could have got him using that macro for pvp out of any of it.

All I'm saying is, the delay command in the macro system could lead to abuse. Last edited by Postiez; 12-24-2007 at 01:12 PM.. |

But it does not change the fact, that with this macro you'll, at best, be able to kill few mobs and at the end to gather a lot of half-dead aggro mobs on you (and then take manual control of the character, so what is the use of such a macro?). To many factors that can go wrong: skill can be resisted/not land, mob can be behind an obsticle (no see, no skill use, macro crashes and you have to fight manually or start it again), you cannot give a command to move, so you'll be killed or badly wounded by ranged mobs (if there is "social" aggro for mobs even melee mobs will be deadly) - those are just few examples. Sure, it can be tried and done but mobs need to be easy to kill (a.k.a. "oneshots"), or when you solo on low lvl mobs but as the game looks this migh not be the case (as the mobs might take some time to take down and there is a need for party as you advance). Maybe it's just me, but see absolutely no sense in such a way of grinding. And Birdman, quote frankly I have no idea who "Vin Disel" or "Paul Walker" are - so sorry, your irony is wasted on me here. |

Postiez - anything can be abused if the possibility will arise. But let me tell you, that using L2 type commands will not get you anywere (I'm quite aware that my knowledge of how the game and commands work in reality is very limited, but I base it on the fact that I did some work on them in Lineage and the PvE gameplay movies and the information about the PvE aspects from Aion).
It can surely help, but abuse? I'm more concerned with 3rd party programs that will fully automate the gameplay (and they are sure to come shortly after the game launches). |
