So now that We know more about this game.... Korean Grind fest?
Just as the title states My primary and most important question is "Is this game a Korean Grind fest?" Now please Don't give me that "What do you define as a Korean Grind fest...Here ill even put a list of games that are Korean grind fest. If Aion is very similar to any of these games please Let me know and help me save money when it comes out.
Sword of the new world Granado Espada (Same game as Sword) World of Kungfu Rapplez Flyff 2 Moons Hero online 12 sky Lost Chaos Lineage 2 These are a few games that I consider something not worth my time and effort. Very little games have had what it takes for me to actually enjoy their content and those are the games where questing and adventuring is Primary. Killing monsters is Secondary. Those games are World of warcraft Lord of the Rings online Dungeons and Dragons online Guild wars Thats it. So Here is the questions I have about Aion...In order from most important to least. I hope to get some good honest responses from the community. I asked some of these questions before I believe it was here or in mmorpg.com but it was so soon that people Did not know enough about the game to tell me. I hope now I can get them responded. #1 Is it a Korean Grind fest? (Does killing mobs over and over and over in a fast pace yield more than 80% of a players EXP in the total time he or she will play) #2 Any word on the subscription fee charge? #3 What are the system requirements? #4 What kind of game security will they be using to prevent bots and hackers....? #5 Will we see a US Release before the end of this year? #6 Is there a strong story feel to the game where players can immerse themselves in the fantasy a la FFXI In game cutcean. #7 WSDA or point and click. #8 Bloody cash shop?...oh god plz say no.. Those are my questions about the game Some of them I have asked before and got 1 or 2 not sure responses but most Have not been answered yet. Thank you for your time and I hope to hear some good replies from you all soon. |

Yes everyone loves the FAQ. From the tone of your post I would say this is not the game for you considering that a fair number of the games you quote as not being worth your time or money are made by NCsoft and there are a number of things that those games have in common. Make your own decision though. Aion is for me though.

It will most likely be the same as any other competitive MMORPG which will probably be around $15 or Euro's a month. FAQ should answer this I am too lazy to go and find out for you. Quote:
There is no release date, however it is official they are aiming to release Beta in the first half of this year and release in the last half. Quote:
Both are supported although WSDA is the main control for flying I believe. Bloody cash shop? You will need to explain before I can reply to this :P |

Extremely unlikely. Nothing has ever been mentioned about this for Aion. And it does not fit an mmorpg that already has a montly subscription fee.
As far as I know, only *free* mmorpgs try to get their needed cash by giving players the option to buy items or credits. |

why is running from NPC to NPC considered so much better than the good old grind ???
and if rewards are same for questing and grind i always take the grind... or we need to save the kingdom go kill 20 spiders... the kingdom isnt save yet go kill 20 frogs too... good work now go to the king and report... well done hero but to get ur final reward u must bring this love letter to my beloved who lives at the other end of the world... and so on and so on.... just show me where the monsters are and let me kill stuff.... tired of beeing FedEx for every single NPC... |

The key for a wider market is in giving choices, and people sometimes want inmersion on their chars, L2 quests were dull and most of them were about hunting 50 wolfs and bringing the wolf skins to a npc to get the reward, a reward that most of the time wasnt worth the effort, you can't really generalize questing as that, since many games got them straight, with entertaining quests that were good for a change and which rewards were worthy enough to be considered if you can't get something better (group xp, for example) |

Some people like to experience the role playing side of questing and like to chill out and follow a route layed out for them while others prefer to suck it up and grind in order to achieve their goals quicker.
Either way, in todays world everyone is screaming out for CONTROL and CHOICE over what they want, so having alot of quests with good rewards is the most sensible answer because that way everyone wins, if you want to grind - go ahead and if not then you have your quests. Off-Topic: Fleiva, does your guild have a website or anything? Cant seem to find it in the Guild section. Last edited by Logan; 01-09-2008 at 05:40 AM.. |

It's still difficult to determine whether the way leveling works during Closed Beta will remain the same upon full release. Remember that all Abyss functions haven't been presented yet, and as stated in articles previously, the Abyss is one of the major sectors of Aion gameplay.
Choice has still been something Studio 5 is trying to keep to, so perhaps it will be a grind fest if you want it to be. |

... You should be able to answer that question. It was one of the first questions addressed by the AION-Team.
Want the answer? Try the AionSource Wiki, which you can link through my signature. Oh, and you could have also used the Search feature. Just put the keyword "grind" and it might surprise you.

Quest/grind balance
LoTR as you mentioned seemed to me to be a purely quest driven game. If I don't feel like doing a quest then I can't really continue in the game. Quests are ok...but if you've ever played L2 and done 2nd/3rd class changes then you may understand why not everyone is excited about questing. Aion is a multi-player online game. Thus for me, it's much more fun to be "grinding" with a nice party of cool people then to spend my time talking to some idiot npc who's just going to have me port around the map for his amusement. And what fun is playing for a |
