No, not just any publicity is good. Just read the comments on any site other than this one about AION news (Kotaku, MMORPG.com, Joystiq, etc.) and you'll see what I mean.

./agree with birdman.
Prehaps one of our more elequent Moderators can type up a letter and send to to MMORPG.com correcting them and offering to update them a bit. They might give us a link on their site or something.

Clearly it's not just because they're stupid, well not all of them. It's because of misinformation. Luckily, Aion source is the center of Aion related information. Those sites get massive hits a day. If we're able to at least give them some information that will make Aion seem extraordinary (which it is), it's a win/win for everyone.

The regular commentator on MMORPG (aside from the few open-minded or inquisitive types who educate themselves) DON'T WANT to know about AION. They find it repulsive and they take any chance to bash it they can get. They find any fault they can and amplify it. They don't want to be educated. They don't want to find out more about the game. They see the name, they see the graphics, they see the movies, the people who make the game, and automatically deduce that "omg, it's l2 again, lol" or "omg, korea grindfest, lol" or "omg, i **** myself again, lol". I'm sick of these people. Die-hard fans of other games, whatever they are, I don't care. I'm not trolling other MMORPG.com forums, am I? I'm not taking the time to comment on WAR movies or whatnot. I don't go to their fansites. Why do these people feel the need to put down something they can't or don't want to understand?

Instead, give them some information that will actually lower to criticisms that these trolls can use. For example, one of the threads was talking about no world pvp. It's also 7 pages long, are you kidding me? Clearly the lack of information is an issue here. Collaboration will be better for both parties.

I have to agree, collaboration and providing clarity is a good course of action. A lot of people read forums but don't post on them. Even in a game's official forums. I have no doubt that there are people who frequent mmorpg.com that are looking for something, anything about new games. Heck, I found aionsource.com because of mmorpg.com. I'm sure there are a lot of players who will do the same. They will want more info and will seek a more clear source. I view sites like mmorpg.com not as end all/be all sources of info but as starting points. Besides, there is also Healthy debate there as well. Just on the Aion forum, you will find players who lambaste Aion (usually for all the wrong reasons - grind game, just like lineage 2, etc). Then you have players who make the effort to set them straight. It's this healthy exchange of ideas (or just correcting dumb statements) that will spur actual interest in gamers who are more casual and might not think to seek out fansites. Well, freedom of speech is "freedom of speech". Granted it's not always completely free based upon the forum/situation but having such a right also brings on people who are "less than stellar" saying idiotic things just for the attention. It's what we do after that counts. |

MMORPG.com is a great resource for people who like to know what's going atm and look at what's in development and if it looks interesting they will look up the official site or try to dig up fan sites and that's where you get all the good info anyway. Any seasoned mmo player knows this and this why mmorpg.com is still handy.
Aslo the site can moderate the forums but they don't have control on who's posting and the more members you have the more trolls you get. Also the anti-Aion has diminished and anyone that bashes the game gets corrected pretty quick. As for that lame review, that's an opinion column by a guest 'journalist'. Of course it's going to say something someone's not going to like. It could have been Pirates of the Burning Sea (should gave been) but it was Aion. I'm going to be very satisfied when Aion hits shelves and proves to be way more solid, polished and fun then most of those other games ![]() |

however, mark nailed it on the head with regards to peoples preconceptions about Aion, given its heritage... i frequent several gaming news sites (ve3d, blues, etc.), and inevitably, when a story about Aion appears (however infrequently), it goes without saying that the vast majority of the posts are from people dismissing it outright... assuming its a "Korean grindfest" and there is simply no convincing them otherwise... *sighs*

i came across apost on mmorpg.com that had to be 6-7 pages long and had CYNTHE defending the game from at least 4 ppl who had no idea and were simply bashing it to bash it. it was an uphill battle for our super moderator.
i hop all over the place looking for aion info and run through the mmorpg site every so often to see whats going on. Quote:

I'm not sure about you guys, but from experience I have learned to completely disregard most critics' reviews. I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels this way. I usually open these reviews, just to see the media provided and almost always look for a link to the main website, without reading much more than a few words, or go over to google to grab more media from fansites where I then form my own opinion of a game based upon what I see and what I read about it.
I do, however, agree that unless people know about something, their opinions on the matter should be nil, but people will inevitably spout on about things they are ignorant about and the only way to silence them is by proving them wrong and providing the correct information. So even though all the sheep will follow the ignorant shepards, the more educated or veteran MMO players will seek out the quality information that they need before being satisfied. Arguing with them is a noble and uphill effort but it might take as little as a simple post with a link to here that will snag some of those quality players. Either way, whether a good or bad review, at least the Aion name is getting out there. The more people see the name, the more interest there will be in the game. Is it better that people read something mediocre or bad about Aion or never hear about the game at all? Besides, I will need alot of PvP fodder to lvl myself up in the Abyss..we need to be accepting noobs from other lesser websites with open arms ![]()
