SpiritMaster Problem

Well, I really wanna play a spiritmaster, but I may have seen a problem....air combat. If the enemy is in the air, can your summon do anything? I had seen a vid of a spirit master fighting ppl in the air, and his summon stayed down, to me that seems very bad for a class that seems to depend on a summon.

What do you think?

I'm also looking forward to playing a Spiritmaster and have though about this exactly. I would assume that you could still cast but like you said, being a class dependent on pets, you would need to stay close to ground in case of an air to air ambush.

It is very simple to use the environment to your advantage. Some places restrict flight.. so if I'd be a summoner, when I'd hear that an apposite faction portal is somewhere near me, I would try to find some of those places. This is if you are alone of course. If you have some friends with you, just attack the first player you see walking As for the airborne ones, I bet your friends will take care of them.

Good point about using the physics of the world to your advantage but the concern for that would be I recall that flight is unrestricted in the abyss.

Yes, indeed, I omitted The Abyss. Well, I don't know what to say for The Abyss. I guess they will think of something. I personally don't have any solid info about summoners so I can't give a fact-based answer. Wait'n see my friends

also remeber they said somthing about there are serten skills thatcan only be used when flying, so in this case the summoner might have a stronger skill to use when flying ssince his summons cant help

This can only apply to air PvP, because if you can control your summon while airborne (and I think you can), you would become a little overpowered. Both in ground PvP and PvE.

they can use Water summon in air PvP. Water spirit has magic skills with great range. I think this summon can nuke the enemy even being on the ground.

Good point, but is there a limit on how high you can fly? because the enemy can simply fly up out of the range of the summon's magic range, and anyone playing summoner will be back at square one alone without a summon caught in pvp.

But the range of the Water is far from what I saw in the video, so we never know. Option number two is that maybe the wind elemental can gain some sort of flight ability, because I mean a wind elemental unable to fly? and Option three is that they just fix this.

Most of the combat will be grounded due the flight restriction. As for those 1-2 minutes in the air you'll have some skills which are very powerful (not only for Spiritmaster, for every class).
As the dev's stated: They want flying to stay special. So don't expect Air PvP for 5 minutes.

Chanter buff makes fly time infinite

so...

they really need to figure out how to balance summoners,

but... we'll have to wait for abyss to come out to know

Its most likley that summons cant fly in that 'form' im guessing that when you do the quest or whatever to make them look more awesome and become stronger they proberly gain the ability to fly or maybe just increase their range from the ground.

It's not only Spiritmasters. Look at the Assassins: They can't stealth in flight.
But I think with the Abyss testing somewhere in March we'll get better infos.
