Assassin Vs. Fighter

Besides the obvious conundrum of how do u want to deal the damage; from the front or from behind. What else makes these 2 different. I mean in most MMO's i've played assassin's(stealthable charaters) have been the major damage dealers to single targets. So wuts so special about the fighter class and how is that going to effect how they both play against and with each other.(pretend all the periods are question marks )

I don't expect a straight answer considering how recently the classes were revailed but some reasonable speculation would be nice.

Assuming they just attack from the front(since Assassins have the bonus damage from the side/back)...
"Fighters" have more survivability, higher consistant damage, and less burst damage.

That would be my guess.

I have a feeling that a fighter is gunna have more aoe type attacks along with it's obviously higher survivability. I've also seen it a few places where the assasins ability's are called "tricks". It makes me wonder what kind of debuffing you might be able to do.

Enh!! With no game and only a few weak facts to work with and we are already talking about how a certain class would (theoretically at BEST!) kill another class???

...

Sounds fun, carry on.

Eh...well, like all MMO's, the Assassin will be strong, but not as strong as a Fighter. It's the classic conundrum. The Assassin's huge power burst will be from sneaking behind and attacking, as always, and the fighter will be a direct threat. It's like a Rogue and a Warrior (WoW), a Thief and a Warrior(FFXI). As for the other abilities they have to use against each other, I don't know, but you can find it in Japanese on um...that one website with the really slow trailer loadings...you'll have to have google translator or understand Japanese. The abilities have been posted tons of time before, you could search back.

Um armor is going to play a big role in how the classes work, Fighter vs Assassin could easily down a Assassin if played correctly, because of more HP and Armor and more base damage according to the weapon he is using; i.e. 2h Sword or Axe or a spear.

Assassins in all MMOs are typical viewed as the burst damage class, which means excellent damage at start, but a large amount taken away as the fight continues.

That's where you get your typical Assassin playstyle, where you deal burst damage at the start and quickly attempt to finish off the enemy before the long fight gets to long otherwise the % of you being defeated increases.

But, as stated its to early to begin talking about classes its only in Phase 1 of Korean CBT and Phase 2 doesn't even begin until March which is a month away, these are all just theories, but the overall thing is that NCsoft is aiming to have all classes semi balanced and every class needable in some sort of situation.

By fighter I guess you mean Gladiator, and like most people said the fighter will be a consistant high dps class. IMO it will really come down to the skill of each player, if anyone gets into a melee war with the Gladiator they are going down, to beat a Gladiator you will have to be good at debuffing them and avoiding melee battles, to be good at a Gladiator you must find ways to always keep on the target.

An assassin who uses his evasion/hiding skills properly and with perfect timing should have a good chance, and of course nobody has played to know for certain, but I would expect that to win an assassin would have to be much more skilled at playing his class than the gladiator, but its not impossible.

I am hoping for some minor debuffs in the assassin skills. LOTRO burglars had this down to a T. As burglar wernt the out and out dps class they were used for debuffs.

Moves like dust in the eyes increased miss chance
counter attack lowered defensive stats (evade, block, parry etc)
disable lowered attack power.

All this can make a difference in a PVP fight or PVE fight and with assassins supposed tricks i think it would be inkeeping to include skills like that and for the assassins to know when and which ones to use.

Rogues never really had these types of debuffs, mostly Blind, distract, Flee, gouge, etc well at least on my hunter, but I haven't been on WoW for a yr so I'm not updated on skills etc.

i personally hope that fighter catches on better than assassin because, i want to be an assassin but in most MMO's ppl flock to it and it gets a bad rap as a nooby naruto fanboy class.

You only get a bad rep of the people playing it are 100% Grade A idiots who fail at playing their class correctly, but you always have those people who define that class they play and prove to others that the class fails.

The reason i asked this question was because the trailer listed gladiators(offensive heavy armor) and warriors(defensive heavy armor). So I was wondering how that might effect the warrior class in general. Like i've tried warrior(not a big fan) i liked the fact that I can take big hits and deal them out too. But as an assassin or rogue it's always been about huge amounts of damage and fast while the warrior took a bit longer.

If it's anything like LOTRO then the assassin will be in the back ranks with only de-buffs, and if gladiators are like champions then damage wise the gladiator would be a better choice.

And yes we can only "speculate" at this stage but it's nice to know what people think and wut they expect based on the information provided.

most likely the same as wow, where fighters will be burst damage (sloooowww but pwahhhh big hits) and assassins will be fast dps (fast average hits)
