Cleric v Chanter

I was wondering if someone could explain the differances? It took me forever to figure out that paladins were my favorite WoW class, and now I am unsure of how this will figure into Aion. They both seem to be hybrid support/melee - the chanter has buffs, but the cleric has a sheild so I am thinking more of a tank than the chanter. Help?

Cleric is a more standard healer, they are THE support class of Aion. Chanters are a 2nd support class with more versatility. With their Club and Shield combo, they are in between a melee and a Cleric, but much more on the support side of things.

And Midgar also said it will, they are in fact "En-Chanters" because they have many buff and enchantment skills for parties and groups~

Well put. Let me make a quick addition to target the trauts11's question.

Cleric = Healer + Offensive spells + Melee Combat (Mace and Shield)
Chanter = Buffer + Soldier Transformation + Close Combat (2-handed staff)

God I hope that Chanter's can use Staff's as effectively in melee as a mace and shield.
I love staves way more then maces.

But actual battle staves. Not magic staves you know?

I think, out of all the classes, people are going to be most surprised by the Chanter. Their staff combat is going to be close, fast, and wicked, their stat buffs, heals, and chainmail are going help keep them alive, and many people don't like their name and their written reputation is a buffer, so, if that is any indication of whether people will play them or not, they will be sought after.

My guess is that the number of Chanters after a couple months time is going to increase quite a bit as people realize there aren't many around and start making alts.

If you are comparing to WOW classes, think of Cleric as priest, and Chanter as paladin. They are not directly comparable but you get the idea, try them both and you'll see which you like better

I'll be playing Chanter, was my first choice since i knew what the classes were basically like in Aion. After reading more in-depth info on the Chanter i realise i like it more and more. I always play support classes, becuase i find DD classes boring.

One thing that i do need to know is, do other classes have debuffing spells? A debuffer class will be the Chanter killer for sure, unless you learn to fight without buffs so you don't need them.

I honestly do not like shields to much, but that is just me. I would much rather
be able to duel wield maces or something if I were a priest, but the maces are a bit
bigger then FFXI hammers, so I don't know if it would work. I loved duel wielding hammers on my white mage in FFXI.

Chanter was my first choice once I found out what the classes were like as well.
I love Bards and Chanter seems to fit the bill.
And it has awesome staff attacks. I adore battle staves.
Although Gladiator/Templar has piqued my interest alot as well, which is wierd cause I
nearly always play Healer classes. There is just something about those giant pole axes and
the attack animations for them that I just love.

I want to play a Chanter with a mace and shield. I like that setup more. Anyone know if I'd be able to do this?

With Stigma you'll be able to as long as things haven't changed. There are Stigma stones for weapon proficiency for sure, so if you are able to use a shield or there is Stigma for that, you should be ok.

Now, no one knows if this will impact any of your stats or if you'll ever be as good with a mace as you would be with a staff, but we will hopefully see that soon.

That's what I was worried about. I'm actually really torn between Cleric and Chanter. Could really go etiher way based on actual gameplay. Guess I'll have to wait and find out.

There's nothing preventing you from trying both classes ( or even keeping both classes ) . I already know first character I'll make will be healer - it is with every MMO I play - and if chanter is great buffer that will be second one I make
