Amen.
I love how people complain about loosing something when they die, I love how people complain that they may get attacked and die, I just LOVE how they complain that the main PvP area requires one to take some risk in order to gain MORE.
Christ... Don't like it? Do quests. Stay the hell out of the Abyss.
Or try a game that really makes your balls hurt when you can loose a weeks worth of exping in just ONE PvP. A game where you CAN de-level due to any type of death and THEN complain about Aion's way.

Get a DD class. Learn the guerrila tactics. Learn your class. Even a solitary character CAN kill opponents when waiting for the right moment.

Completely depends on what loot is available in the various zones . It could very well be you have to PvP if you want the high end gear .

Question about where PVP can take place. In the curse preview it says:
PVP

"The PVP of Aion is quite refreshing:
First of all, in the Abyss, which is the core of conflict, you will able to encounter the opposite faction in the persistent world, in zones around the Abyss at a middle/high level (the lower level areas are protected). You can duel your own faction, you can raid cities, PVP in arenas (just for fun, no ranking system). Oh and you will be able to teleport into enemy territories through portals that spawn randomly, with a huge signal in the sky, noticing players from everywhere that a portal just spawned and also indicating about the portal, avoiding useless traveling."

The bold part is what I'm interested in. I know the Abyss is the primary PVP area, but will mid-high level players be able to go into non-Abyss enemy lands to fight?

I know you can teleport there randomly, but I'm confused about the nature of non-Abyss pvp.

City Raids?! *drool* Can we raid high level cities of the enemy outside the Abyss? Or do they mean "cities" found within the Abyss. Like a control-point castle or something.

i think you can raid the cities outside the abyss, but im not so sure tho. maybe im not the best person to be answering this question . pvping to get high end gear is a great idea for everyone who enjoys to pvp, but all of those who would much rather gather guildies and raid instances and stuff would find it alittle bit annoying. theyd be forced to pvp just so that they could get half decent gear

lol, so basically, I'm not going anywhere near the Abyss unless I'm either max level already, so it doesn't matter if I lose XP, or I'll need to bring a possy.

I can already taste the awesomeness of ganking non-max level people as an Assasin

And yes, I know I'm an ***, but when things get boring every once and a while, like they do in all MMOs from time to time, I can't think of anything more fun to do than gank some guy hard at work.

Jeez guys, you're so going to get disappointed with Aion if you're really expecting to have a nice carebear game...

What's the problem of being ganked and losing exp on the Abyss? You'll only go there if you want to. There are a lot of good mobs and bosses that give awesome experience, and if you really want that, you have to take a risk. Most of you are saying that you won't go to the Abyss because you're afraid of the PvP, but then, what's the point of playing the game without the most interesting area that was already mentioned as the main attraction of Aion? How can you play a MMORPG without the PvP? Why don't you just grab a nice offline game where you can hit monsters?

Online gaming is all about competition, and when NCsoft calls Aion a PvPvE game, you can't expect to play peacefully in the best zones of the game, which will most likely be over-crowded.

I'm probably being short-sighted with this reply, but could that problem be fixed by a couple different server rulesets and adjusted loot tables?

Like PVE servers that don't have open world PVP elements like city raiding and Abyss gear (assuming city raiding exists). For the PVE crowd, the Abyss would simply be there for fun, not gear. They could get their uber gear from the loot tables at PVE encounters instead.

I'll be on the PVP server though. I want all different types of gameplay

Well considering that I started my post with, " I'm probably being short-sighted with this reply, but..." I simply put a thought out there to spawn more discussion.

You're not being "mean", but you are trolling. If you don't agree with the thought, i can respect that. I even said it was half-baked. But don't just call it "the dumbest thing you've ever heard in you're life." Either explain your reasoning or ignore my post. What you've done is essentially made a personal attack without substantiating your opinion with additional information...

That's trolling, friend.

or maybe that's flaming. either way...

There's no logic behind customizing a game just because you don't like some parts of it. That's why you have a market full of varieties and different games. I'm sure that if you had servers with different gameplays, the community would be cracked, and you wouldn't be playing Aion after all. If someone deslikes a certain system, play something else. As simple as it gets...

Sorry for trolling, but the idea had no meaning whatsoever.

Well, I agreed with that.

There are games that have different rulsets. Nothing new in that. And quite frankly we don't know if Aion will have servers with different rulsets (though it seems that the abyss would not be changed as that wouldn't really make sense), I doubt it but it could.

Also, online games that "have" competition are "about" competition. Online games that don't have competition are probably about something else, no? One could also make the argument that online games are about cooperation.

But sure, people need to be clear as to what this (or any) game is about.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, players who want sole pve are going to be highly dissapointed. Conversely, hardcore pvp'ers will probably also be dissapointed.

This seems to be a casual pvp game. But it is a pvp game so unless NC makes alternate rules servers, as Otium has stated:

"If someone deslikes a certain system, play something else. As simple as it gets..."

Thank you for your reasoning. In regards to the community being cracked, I don't see that as an issue. There are already many MMO's on the market with different server types and rulesets. PVE, PVP, RP-PVP. Tweaking the game experience for a a different kind of server doesn't make the game any more or less "Aion". I think it's simply giving customers what they want, and at the end of the day this game exists for 1 reason. To make money for the developer.

I think it comes down to the game that the market wants to play, and in that regard, a "market" isn't a single opinion. It's thousands, sometimes millions of people with their own unique ideas of what they think is Fun.

If NCsoft can develop a game that caters to such a wide gamut of playstyles, more power to them. But I won't begrudge the PVE crowd for what they think a fun game is, nor will I begrudge Aion if they decide to make a few ruleset options and broaden their market potential.

That being said, you can't please everyone and a game can become diluted if it tries to make too many people happy. The developer can lose their own vision of what the game should be. A delicate balance indeed.
