Will the Aion servers be region restricted?

We still don't know exactly, hope not though, because it would still be interesting to have some people from other countries in my server, would seem more like an actual world.

I don't mind international servers as long as they tell you the location of the server (so I can choose one based in US for ping reasons) or an address you can ping test on, like server.aiononline.com (that is the syntax that I dealt with on EQ2, don't know if it is the same for Aion)

Well i may sound like big naysayer but honestly i don't belive there will be international servers.

It's recent trend to split regions and restrict acces. L2 may have international servers but when they started with it NCsoft EU was noexistend and spliting it now would think their subs even more.

And there is lot of problems for company to allow for international servers. (tournaments, contests, connection problem, lag, language problems etc etc.) so i don't think sugstion cycle will change anything here. This decision is made on high level of company, not by devs who may care about players sugestions and stuff like that

Well every guild I've been in has had players from all over the place so it would suck to see a lot of guilds getting split.

Just to clarify, i didn't mean it will be ip block restriction (but who knows) i think it will rather be closer to wow thing. ie US got their version of client, EU theirs. And if you want to play in the other region you have to import box from there or use adres from that region to obtain cd-key online.

So it still possible to play across regions but its strongly discouraged by comapny.

Those stickies are long...it took me over an hour to go through all 44 pages + 11 pages of other stickies .

Anywho, I would prefer an International server, as most of my friends/family that I'll be playing with are from the USA/Europe (I'm from asia :P). If however I'm doomed to play on the regional version, well, I'll probably still get it, just so I can listen to the ingame music, if they don't release a separate soundtrack for it like in GE.

I also hope they aren't region restricted, so us people can play on eu servers and the reverse path can work also. I don't see the ping as a problem once it will be you choice to play with a higher ping. Just an add: notice that play on L2 eu servers from us isn't bad at all (Usually a 50-100ms difference, at least for me).

My l2 clan has people from mexico, serbia, sweden, netherlands, poland, bulgaria, portugal, canada, usa, france, hungary...and probably 1 or 2 other countries i'm forgetting...this wouldnt be possible without international servers. We pwnd the server, owned the best castle for our reign, got several heroes each month etc...I think you are also over exagerating the lag..on a usual basis i never heard of people getting much more than a 150ms ping

You can normally compensate pretty well for the lagg in a game style like aion.

Yeah, i've always played in servers being hosted in the US and I had no problems at all with lag. I'm from Europe.

Agreed. I also played on US hosted server's many times and never had any problems with lag. Hell, once i played an MMO hosted in Asia and it runned quite fine. No problems imo. I'm from Brazil by the way.
