Thats true, but if I get off of work at 11 pm and end up playing 200 people from japan I won't be happy...

Why would you not be happy?
If there are only 200 japanese people then that means in regional server there is no one online.
If there are other people then just party with them and enjoy the diversity.

i think regional restrictions will be made when that certain region has its own local server

Then I'm doomed. Hopefully the SEA version will come out much much much much much later like they did in L2.

I doubt... how and why would NCsoft control it?

This is a big problem with international servers. It worked in FFXI because it's a slow paced game. Split-second timing simply wasn't necessary. It's different in a faster, more competitive game, though. In WoW even a 150+ ping would noticeably hamper my performance in the arena and if Aion is going to require as much precision in timing, you can kiss international servers goodbye.

Another problem I noticed a lot in FFXI was how imbalanced the populations can be. Europeans were rare in comparison to NA/JP players so the server was half-dead during my prime time. There was basically zero guild activity going on during EU time because practically every guild was either NA or JP dominated with a few EUs thrown into the mix. Whenever I wanted to do a mission or go to Dynamis or whatever, it meant staying up to 2-3 AM and it still wasn't always enough.

honestly guys i still don't know if i actually want that restriction or not, the thing is unfortunately hate the American shallow culture, it's nothing personal, there's plenty of cool people in that side of the ocean but i haven't got many goods experiences in onlines games from American gamers... also i don't want to play with lag and sharing the same servers will surely make things worse, either NCSoft favors a region over the other or they get a good balance in between, but in either option there's a possibility of more lag so...

on the other hand, i completely understand you guys, i also like to meet with some GOOD people out of my country borders so if i was American i would definitely want no region restrictions... but i'm at the EU side of the planet so i don't mind if there is one less culture, but then again thats only because there are so many already in EU...

LOL, you got to be ****ting me if you assume NCsoft will use international servers just because it won a suggestion cycle, you'll be lucky if the actual developers read it. There are reasons for regional servers, in FFXI where your normal attack tolk 3 seconds and your special abilities fired every 30 to 60 seconds, it isn't a big deal, but in an action paced game with interacting effects like interrupt, intercept and collision, it is a very big deal, big enough for them to weigh regional servers over your suggestion.

There are some who would rather have a social portal out of a game rather than a fast and accurate combat, but if they decide that their game is going to be action oriented, you need to accept the fact that there were trade offs for action, not assume international servers are a given just because you want them and your suuuure they will even notice.

There wont be lag for you if someone from abroad connects to your server, and if they have a decent connection/isp there's no reason they should have much lag going across the ocean. Like I said earlier, my last L2 clan of 40 people represents about 10-15 countries, and my 4 clan alliance probably represents 25....Where else can you interact and meet people like that without leaving your country?

one person doesn't make a difference at all but we are talking about a lot of people here and believe, that really affects lag, specially in a game like aion, i respect your opinion about meeting people though, but when you talk about the 10 / 15 / 25 countries they aren't all from the Americas are they? i bet there like 4 / 5 countries representing the American continent so i don't lose much... but again, i completely understand you, if i was in your position i would be saying the same thing you are saying now

about half of our clan is north american (canada, US and mexico), but off my head, i can name people we have from serbia, sweden, norway, france, portugal, poland, bulgaria, slovakia, australia, hungary, lithuania. The l2 server location is in Chicago, from east coast canada i get a 40-50ms ping, the population of the server is 50-60% European, 20-30% North American, 20-30% South American. There are probably close to 100k players, and the server hits over 3k players per day. I can assure you there is no lag because of people across the ocean connecting, and I can also guarantee that 90% of people outside of NA do not experience regular connection problems.

Most of the lag issues people have are due to their connection. Usually they have lame speeds and blame server location for that, which is quite annoying...

L2 is a fast-paced game and I'm playing on an US server as a euro (and so do tons of other people, Bartz for instance?) and there are no lags to cry about. I really hope they won't have localized servers as that will mess things up badly for us when we move to Aion.
