Just read the first few posts so don't know if this has been mentioned. They should make servers language specific. Having everyone on the same servers creates that language barrier that is really hard to get over. FFXI was a good example of this. It had an autotranslator function built in the chat but was missing a lot of key things.

Or just have server(s) set as international and let the others be region specific. I can't speak anything other than English and I'd prefer everyone I meet to be able to speak it. I don't mind people from other countries, I've met some really fun people from Japan and Europe playing the various MMOs I've been on but it still doesn't change the fact I can't speak their language.

I get irritated when I see general chat that I can't understand. Maybe I'm the only one.

Ever built or maintain a server? Server placement plays a huge role in latency. You'll notice sometimes that you can choose different mirrors to download files from, when you're downloading huge files from certain websites. If you decide to venture into a server in a different region, and you have the fastest connection in your own region, you will most likely get a higher ping than someone with a decent latency in their own region. Your ping could be extremely high or slightly higher than your original ping in your own region, but the point is that it's higher due to server location.

With that said, I wouldn't care if servers were region restricted or not, as long as people make wise decisions on which server to play on and not whine about ping considering there will be plenty of servers to choose from.

I do know that the location might influence. Fact is, probably 75% of lag problems are due to people's connections and not to the location. I've had previous experiences where friends of mine would lag in the same server I was playing while I didn't have problems at all. And no, I don't need to build or maintain a server to know that.

I loved the international servers in FFXI, the only thing I really appreciated about FFXI was the opportunity to connect with people all over the world, I like the way oriental people play, and I had much less difficulty getting a response from a Japanese person through autotranslate than I did with Americans speaking my language, that's not the point.

Latency sensitive abilities are what define actual action, and action is something big on the marketing scheme of Aion, If your going to have interrupts, intercepts, blocking, and other interactive skills which rely on latency, they need to have some reliable servers.

And guess what, buggy connections and poor ISPs are a norm, not an oddity, so you have to produce a game developed to cooperate with the norm of buggy connections, that way it will work for everyone, not just those who have access to ideal connections.

Running a http/ftp server is a lot different than running a game server. Any decent ISP will provide proper traceroutes that should eliminate bad routes from major ISP's (euro countries are mostly cable, with only 1 or 2 isp to choose from), and if you are really having a problem, you could do your own traceroute and request your ISP to change it (if you have that feature available)...like mentioned on the last page there are some game servers that have no lag pretty much anywhere in the world as long as your connection is good.

Quoted. For. Truth.

Auto-Translate = Most useful tool I have ever had
So strange that you could respond easier with that from people who were othe rlanguages then speaking with someone who spoke your own *scratches head*

Of course we used that feature with our own languages too, because it got to the point where it was faster to use the translator to show our words then it was to actually type them O_O I still sometimes hit the tab key in the middle of a word when in anything typing xD

It was said before I'm sure, but FFXI was so easy to do with the server set up, because the game was "slow" paced in terms of how the battles took place. Characters having around 10 skills only, not including magic spells, and the skills having 30second and 60 second and even 2 hour cool downs, it was easier to manage with any lag issues. Today's mmo's are more involved and require alot faster "reaction" to the actuall gameplay, so split second timing is way more crucial then it was in FFXI.

1 or 2 international servers, then some restricted servers is perfectly fine.
If anyone has a problem with it they're just being picky.

Modern games usually have the option to region switch, even if it is a latency sensitive game, that way you have an option, whether your interface worked properly with those language characters I wouldn't know.

Do you have to capitalize almost every letter from each word?

Anywho, about the Korea thing...those are restrictive, Korea is only for Koreans, and NCSoft generally has regional servers in East Asia (Japan/Korea), there used to be NCSoft Asia that catered to the other Asian countries but that closed down. Seeing that people that aren't Korean can't make an account in the Korean servers due to lack of KSSN, how the heck am I supposed to play in that server if I'm not Korean? I would settle for Aion Global if it wasn't restrictive on players playing on other regional servers (meaning not IP Blocking EU and US IP's), but if not well...no point in playing if you're not playing with friends .
