Will the Aion servers be region restricted?
Hello everyone! I'm new here, and am very sorry if this has been asked multiple times, though I didn't see it in the FAQ thread.
I have a really good friend who lives in Scotland (I live in California), and he is planning to move from FFXI to Aion along with myself come the release. He has heard that the servers will be restricted based on the region that the game is purchased in, which would likely mean we would not be playing together. With WoW, I bought him a copy of the US version, and sent it his way, and he was able to join my server without a hitch. The problem was that he didn't enjoy his time there, because he was 5-8 hours apart from everyone on the server, making it hard to make it to scheduled events. Needless to say, he won't be joining me on a US server, if he'll likely be on of the few importing Europeans there. So will the servers be region restricted? I sure hope not, especially for a startup MMO, as there will be a low amount of US/EU players from each region playing from the get go, and condensing as many players as possible to fill servers would be a good move, eliminating the risk of people getting frustrated and leaving Aion in the first few months due to a potentially slow start and overly vacant servers region restricted servers IMO. |

Winning that circle doesnt change anything. Its sort of a game for curious people. Phiber will send the results to the devs, but theres absolutely no guarantee that they will accept them. We still dont know whether there will be restrictions or not, but i have a feeling this matter even @ NCs is a mystery. Its too soon.

Yeah, servers restricted by region is a big issue for a lot of people. One of my best friends I've met online is from Scotland (I'm also from California), and a good number of Noble Phantasm lives abroad. We're a North American guild but love our guildies from overseas because... well, they're simply amazing.
If they really end up making servers restricted by region, I'll be upset. At the moment, there's no official news (to my knowledge) that there will or will not be restrictions. Therefore, I don't believe there's any need for concern yet. As has already been mentioned, AionSource as a community have released an official suggestion to Aion's devs that servers not be restricted by region, so lets hope the devs listen and love us. |

I have mixed feelings in regards to this topic. On one side you have people who would rather play with guilds or friends at a different time thus playing on another server location would be convenient. On the other hand who wants to play with someone with 300ms?

and....
We are still working out details on servers, so nothing is ultimately decided. There is of course a possibility, however, that US-based servers might require a US version of the game. As soon as we have some solid information on this, it will be announced to the community

I myself don't understand why they would be region restricted. I always figured the wider audience base the better, and making friends overseas is always fun! Thats what I loved about FFXI, was that you could play with people from your area if you wanted, or with people from abroad. You could even specify who you preferred to party with. I think Kitoro had a better idea with Language restriced servers, that would be more understandable then region restricted.
I assume Lag would be the major reason though, but I would imagine it wouldnt make things anywhere near unplayable. |

i hope they wont put riegon restictions of servers.
i think that no riegon restrictions on servers is the smart idea so that you can play on a server at an iregular time for you and still have other people online. but usualy in the end the server tho it isnt resticted to some times branch off into mainly us on this server and mainly eu on that server and mainly oceanic on another server and asian on a completely diffrent one. it usually hapens but not too quick esp with only a beggining player base. but ide like to see them eventual sepereate the servers by the clock time zone not by actual restricting them so no eu players can play on a us server
