Hey now, never have used a name outside the universe it resides in and never will.

Its good news that there cant be any special characters in your name, and bad news if it doesn't automatically capitalize the first letter, that irks me too. As for a naming policy, its nice to have one, but I've yet to see a MMO where they could strictly enforce it enough.

Think you can re-use a name for a character after deleting it?

Well I know of a couple people who opon release will be making multiple characters with the "common boring names" in an attempt to not have them walking around xD
These will include any FF7 character names especially. Why would a Cleric be named Cloud anyway? *scratches head*

I always felt that the name of your character should be focused on as it is one of the most important parts of character creation. Its the greatest feeling to bring a character to life that you created... I just dont think you get the same feeling when you see xxIwIlLOwnYOUxx is in your party =\ . But sometimes you find great people behind those names, and they just happended to not be as into certain aspects of the game as you are. Never judge a book by its cover as they say

I really hope so. It would really suck to create your main, log in, play for a few minutes and think "I bet I'd look better with red hair," log off, delete main, wait 5 minutes, try to remake your char with red hair this time, only to find out your name is no longer available... permanently.

While automatically capitalizing the first letter and lower-casing the rest does help prevent the xNamex insanity and the even worse cApItAlIzAtIoN, it does allow you to fake FirstLast name character schemes so that more "normal" names are usable.

Will there be any restrictions on names? One thing I liked about L2 was the freedom, even if some names were slightly offensive. WoW's policy is kind of strict and stupid.

I'll totally echo this wish ... I hate when people just used characters like ��™ for a name. It just made the game seem so ... Unimmersive.

Totally agree. Immersiveness (is that a word?) is different then RPing also, incase anyone is getting that idea. Being able to be apart of a fantasy world for a good 6 hours or so one evening is such a great feeling and very enjoyable . I always wonder why people feel like looking foolish with their names.

But there is no one way to play a game, or one way to create a character. I just hope its kept to a minimum to not interfere a whole lot with those who are looking for immersement in Aion.

The only name I ever used that I felt bad about was "QQupid". It was in WoW on a pvp server with a Blood Elf Hunter, so I think it was justified =D

i think a majority of posters on this thread is advocating a naming policy that is against your taste. and i'm one of them.

Before TBC I did have a mage, lol. So for TBC I rerolled a hunter.

Or my long characterstory will die... I just have to type the name before a npc can be created on the server!

And it really doesn't take that much effort to create a name that doesn't require some sort of strange embellishment. Heck I sometimes will just search for websites with baby names and see if there are two I can sort of mish mash together that still sound cool. Or I'll just make something up if I'm feeling creative.

If they could allow for a space that would be nice, sometimes I do like having a surname. But the space may create undue amounts of problems as well.
