or for a possible Family System in future patches its need to be saved as a second name. Again, not as a must, but as an option.

If there were a family system, the family would provide the last name. I don't like the prospect of having a last name for my character. But if people want to have a last name, at least let it not force me to type it in when I search names. A family system would be a good outlet to allow people to have their cake and eat it too. It would allow people to have their last names, without it inconveniencing players who want to talk to a person with a last name.

That seems like a reasonable option. The first name would be the actual name of the character which must be unique and is how you actually talk to them. The second name would just be for display. I believe Vanguard is like this, but I didn't play it past beta...

Edit: They could even develop a system to make 'family' names unique as well by having the second name only be obtainable through creating a 'family' which would be by invite only, kind of like a legion, but the name gets displayed as a second name instead of below your name.

Again, in LotRO, its just like a title after your name (+additional, normal titles ofc). And its a must for a normal RP game.

Sounds really too much like a legion.... People having a familly then a legion .. what else, a religion?

I'm just saying that one name is enough and about the RPers well.. you can just tell people your ''last name'' if you want to, they will probably remember it and call you with your whole name if they want to RP with you.

I used to like only having just one name, so it actually irks me a little when I had to have at least 2 words in a name in GW. I eventually grow to like the 2 name system though. So I can make characters like Jayce Aurasquirt. Haha. On the other hand a simple name like Stalker or Power might lose it's charm when you have to add something else behind it.

In the end though, I guess it really just depends on what culture the game wants to exhibit. If it's more fantasy or more cool, or more or less RP oriented, it's the developer's choice.

It seems as if the name settings could be different from region to region. It is like Ayase said at the time but could be changed. So it is not made in stone that you could only have one name at release. So said Amboss in a German forum when they brought the news with the comment of Ayase.

Yeah, and how long can you make the name? Because 10 characters in Korean can be up to 30 sylables long, that's not the same in English.

Not a bad idea, they could add it as an option, when you hit 15 or 20 you get to pick a last name, it makes your character just that much more believable.

I would prefer single names in Aion, but a family name / last name idea is not a horrible idea at all if it could be used more or less as an option or a display like Fiend said previously. I am just worried about cluter of the names, First and last, and legions, and any titles they may have it Aion. What about having a type of character bio? You could use it for RP easily, and even if you dont RP at all you could write whatever you wish. I am thinking of somewhat of a mix between the FFXI comment system and (forgive me if other games do this but this is the only one I know of who has had it) PSO's character Bio.

So take for example my name. Your running around in Aion and get invited to my party for some fun in the sun action adventure gaming action, and you think what a cool person I am and how much fun we all had together. You can search my name, and you can get a small window with my character image, titles, a last name, legion, and a section I would write in anything I want. Stating accomplishments, or just a story/history of your character. Or anything else I could think of. Perhaps an upload of a favorite screenshot or something too. it could be used to do everything an RPer would like to have available, and it could be easily used (or even not used if you dont want to) by everyone else for anything they want ^^

Just a thought on how you could make this last name system work on an evolved level. I got the feeling the conversation was expanding into something bigger then just last names, but born from that idea

10 characters is too short for most people, and I liked the way GW did it's names. You didn't have to choose one last name, you could have anything you wanted.
