Diversity in low level gear
Well, I looked and I didn't find any thread on this particular subject so shoot me if this is a repeat.
The low levels - We are all a part of them at some point, some longer than others. Then there's the starting and generally low level gear. Now, most people don't spend a very long time in that margin of lowness, so in many cases the starter gear is thrown away after the owner has grown out of it - and because you are limited to one job per character, unlike FFXI, you wont ever need it again. Perhaps Aion's (larger than other MMOs) level of customization in your character's physical aspect will help weigh out the fact that your armor and what not look exactly the same as everyone else that's your class at this range of levels. This would have been more a dilemma if character customization was extremely limited or people would be playing low levels often (Sounds a lot like FFXI >_>) BUT ANYWAY - What would you like to see in Aion's low levels? - Are low levels to quick and fleeting for it to even matter? - Or would you rather have something to mix it up? Perhaps so you don't feel as much a n00b as everyone else? - Would you rather each class have its own starter clothes or divided into magic-light-heavy armor types? - Or maybe the low level gear not have very different looks because 'they haven't earned it' and they need to 'work their way up for it' I like hearing your opinions and I'd love to hear some input from CBT Testers~. :] |

I personally think customization should be something earned and the low levels will probably be so quick it wouldn't matter.

Turn this into a Poll
, but uhhh sometimes looks in the lower levels won't be easy to tell if someones a low level just by their Armor because you can combine stats of a High level item and keep the looks of a lower level item if you thought it looked cooler, exept Unique Items as far as I know.

Tabula Rasa had it to where you could make a custom set of starting armor from a selection of eight different styles for each equipment slot besides helm, even though you only used the armor for all of 15 minutes. It's not that unreasonable to want different types and some variety.

Well the low levels will pass by as fast as you want them to. Many players will go out and instantly grind and get the low levels over with within the first day or two. Others will take their time and enjoy the journey, go exploring, questing, and other stuff that isn't necessarily the most efficient, but very fun~
Because of this, I think the low level armor needs to be adequate but of course nothing special. Make it decent looking, although it does need to look noob, so that higher levels contrast with it more and look better. It's always fun to look at your character's armors as they progress in level, each new set getting more intricate and sweet looking But really it does need to look basic. No one deserves great looking armor when they just started playing~ And neither does their character after just embarking on their journey. |

I'm sure you will be able to. So many players complained about scamming and not having a true White Dye in Guild Wars that they finally made one, so I'm sure they'll consider that with their colors for Aion

There are white armor dyes. But like I said before on another thread somewhere, the colour varies slightly on different armors. By that I mean it may look pink on 1 design, but purple on another when it's named "Purple Dye".
Honestly Aion has some of the best graphics I've seen, sure there are complains here and there ("WHY ARE THERE NO SHORT SKIRTS INSTEAD OF LONG ROBES?") but in general none of the gears actually look "noobish". I was able to get to lvl 20 as my spiritmaster in a relative short amount of time, given that the server uptime is quite short during CBT. There are tons of facial expressions that you can modify everything from width of eyes location of eyes size of nose direction etc etc, the only part that is somewhat lacking is the hairstyle. Don't get me wrong, there are like 15 hairstyles for each gender, but still I find it lacking when the other customization is so complete. Other than that, the gears are pretty much match and mix. There are vendor quality items every 5 lvls, there are world drops both white and green and even better quality, there are crafted whites and greens. Although I realize there's a resemblance between the gears of similar level, I would still say it's rather difficult to look just like another player (unless you chose a premade char and they did too, happens when ppl are lazy!). Overall in general I highly doubt it'll be left like this in the official release, since a lot of the graphics are just placeholders (I'm speaking in terms of helmet design).

From what I understand, you can take a high level weapon and transfer it's stats onto a lower level weapon that you just happen to like the look of, right? So you can basicly keep the skin of any weapon you choose. So probably everything will look more powerful the better the stats, but never be fooled by someone with a tiny weapon O_O It could have killer stats! But I guess since any item could be used at any stage in the game, they'lll try to make everything will look pretty cool.

Especially if they restrict you from checking an enemies gear. =P
