Playing Your Own Gender

i'm basicly the same as reize, before wow i always played male chars then when wow came out i wanted to be a NE but hated the males so played a female and scince then have mostly played females. however the amount of customization in aion will probably mean i can make a male char that i actually like so dunno which i'll be. gonna spend a LONG time on character creation.

people should't get annoyed when people pretend to be girls to get stuff. The small advantages gained are nothing compared to what you gain by joining an end game guild where you'll need some form of voice comuntication.

Generally I play Male characters because I am male. I have played a female character before in FFXI though (Mithra). I wanted to try out a new race and Mithras can only be female in that game.

It doesn't bother me either way if people play a character different from their RL one. I guess I never really understood what the big deal about it was.

Hehe thats the most common reason I've heard from male people why they prefer playing female characters. But yeah lol you're so right..

I'm female and always play female characters. And dont think I'll ever choose play a male character tbh.

Should add that I dont really care if you're male and play a female character, or female and play a male one.

I find it strange to play a female just for attention. But sadly, it works, and I got a few friends that find it fun to do it. Not that I care when they do it, since we always get a laugh from it, but I wouldn't do it myself.

yep.. when u play females char (and mostly when u pretend 2 be a girl) u get a lot of attention, u get all the info u need, u get party much faster, help with quests, even items and gold...... no wonder girls r so materialistic in real life 2

also... seen guys or girls who doesnt want or even imagine playing other gender .. and I can't understand why..
there r games with limited char option , classes with only 1 gender. for eg.. my love game.. martial heroes has 4 classes (warrior, mage, monk and assassin) every class with 3 weaps possible and all except assassin r males... so basically if u want 2 play female u have only 1 class, or if u want 2 play assassin u can only be female... I have a friend from India, very nice girl, but it isn't the most convinced assassin type I've seen (it's more like a tanker type, gladiator or smg), but she only could choice assassin cos she wanted a female char and also because of religion . I had real hard time 2 make her get into my acc on the monk upgrader character 2 do for me some help ...

well anyway.. it is a game and i see more fun playing with a girl char and also more good looking :P
for me a female char is like the second GF (u talk durty with my "gf"?!... i will pk u xD)

well i guess ma main char this time will be female, ive always played male char so far cause they looked better in heavy/plate armor but as for aion all the pics and screens ive seen about female chars just looked hot, even for plate armor, so i dont see a prob why i shouldnt try a female char once in a while^^
but of course i will have more than only 1 char

Yes, I will play my own gender. I have played a female character (a gnome Mage in World of Warcraft) in the past, and I got tired of people trying to hit on me.

Honestly I don't know what all this fuss is about. I never got hit on in WoW just for having a girl avatar. Sure, people jokingly flirt sometimes, but usually this is after they've heard me or for whatever reason know for a fact that I'm a girl.

I think that people just assume that 9 times out of 10, a female avatar is actually a guy. You know how they say... "male until proven female." A girl without a mic is a guy in real life.

Honestly, it doesn't bother me that much. I am a guy and will always play guys, I don't feel gay looking at pixels so the whole "looking @ a guy's *** all day" thing doesn't really matter to me . Personally I'd feel perverted playing a female character all the time.

It doesn't bother me that ppl cross-gender because honestly if they didn't, we'd rarely see any females, and half of the artwork in Aion would be wasted.

I usually play female cause I am a girl in real life, but female are usually more cool then male too. But in Wow blood elfe guy were so cool, i play one If a male character more cooler then a female, ill play male with no probleme, but i prefer to play female. I can be attached more to my character.

The androgynous race, that's a good idea, you could make them look alien like or maybe a race of robots with no gender. Something similar to Summoner 2 on the PS2, where they have this race of people whose bodies were robots but had the souls of humans. Also similar to D&D robot like race.

For this my view is that I don't care if anybody plays male or female. I play both myself. I have some RP characters that I've used for a long time, and am pretty attached to em

Iceflare - male human rogue/assassin

Shadowice - Dwarf cleric/priest

Vespariana - Female tank character (any race)

Flarewind - male cat bard if possible, if not, then female elf bard

Ashandarei - Male dark elf enchanter/psionist/crowd control type person


have about 6 others but I haven't used them recently

All of the above have their own persona and I play them that way sometimes, sometimes i'm just...myself.

What does the real life gender have to do with the character anyways? I will play male characters, female characters, and 'other' characters regardless of my real life gender. And really, unless you know me IRL...why is it your business who or what I am? If anyone has ever had a real and TRUE internet stalker, then they will understand why some people are uncomfortable revealing that information and find it irrelevant. Also, people DO treat different sexed toons differently. It's not as bad as it used to be...but the fact of the matter is that it does happen. You look past it and go on. I play what I'm comfortable with and typically that is male, but not always. And it may or may not be a reflection of the real thing. If you know me and I choose to be a friend to you, then you will know. If you don't know me, then chances are you won't know the truth and you have no need to. Someone you meet one time for a pick-up party and will probably never see you again doesn't need to know stuff about you IRL. Someone in a static party whom you see a lot and actually physically TALK to from time to time, if you feel comfortable with them and trust them then they'll probably know. But when it comes to the internet just a word of caution to all. People lie. Always protect yourself first.
