I dont really care what you play, as long as you dont make yourself out to be the opposite gender to other people. And I also never knew why people give girls stuff in game...if they ask me something I'll be like are we going out? What do I get in return. Girls usually = drama, some clans I've been in didnt accept girls unless they were someones gf/wife...but thats L2, a game based on drama anyway. Also I'd imagine its harder being a girl, in my L2 clan there was a girl from hungary, and she would hardly ever talk in vent...one guy in our clan was Aussie and he never heard her talk, so he would always say things like "Jenny! Go to the kitchen and make me a flippin sandwich!". Then she would type "Go burn your self ina microwave"...She was ahrdcore though, played more than 90% of the clan.

I find it weird how so many people (male or female) gain so much attention while playing on their female characters. I generally play males as it's more natural for me to play a character of my own gender, but in FFXI I played female (Mithra) and I never had any problems. I also didn't receive any special favours from especially "caring" males. And no, I didn't wear a sign with "I'm a dude!" on it. In fact, I probably couldn't tell whether the person behind my character was male or female if it wasn't me, and it was obvious that neither could many of the people I encountered in the game. As a thumb rule I always assume everybody are male unless otherwise stated, though I've looked for hints of a person's true gender by analyzing their behaviour. I noticed that if it types properly rather than using hi2u speak, the chance of it being female goes up. Likewise, if there is little or no profanity/lewd jokes, the chance of being female goes up. Lets see... I will probably end up playing a female character.... i usually do in all games, i just prefer the way they look. I don't pretend I'm a girl (unless someone starts hitting on me, then i play along for ***** and giggles...) but if it is someone i am going to be playing with or someone that comes off as nice then i tell them...
As to the people giving girls stuff ingame, i have had people come up to me and ask for stuff, and i quote this them - "Hey dude, can i get some stuff?" me - "uhh, why?" them - "cause im a girl, ill take off my armor and dance for you, i just need some money for my mount" xxx is now being ignored xxx was a level 12, mounts are at 40... made me laugh, but people start expecting stuff just cause they play female characters... i mean, i could have easily afforded that kids level 40 mount, level 60 mount, flying and epic flying, and still had enough for 5 more people... but to me i treat everyone the same *until i get to know them*, i generally will treat females better because they are just nicer, they don't demand, they ask, and they don't beg... they are polite and understanding... thats just from my experiences though Edit: Realized i was being contradictory and changed it - *until i get to know them* |

I'll play a male character so as to further immerse myself into the game.

My bottom line is simple. Everybody starts off, in my mind, as a guy. In the time I know you, I will give you the opportunity to come forward and say otherwise, at least privately and if you would rather me keep your true gender a secret, then I will honour your request unless you're achieving some devious end with your fabrications.
And this works for me because in the end, I don't care if you're a girl or guy. Well, to be fair, if you are a girl, I will make certain acquisitions along the lines of being a bit more thoughtful in mannerism. I evaluate people holistically based on what that person, as an individual, is capable of and does bring to the table. If you are a good PvPer, I will note that. If you are clever, I will note that. If you have a good attitude, I will note that. Anybody and everybody will always have a chance to prove themselves in my mind and in determining the worth or value of a human being, gender has no place. You are either worth my time or not.

And when i played WoW i remember seeing a video in witch the guy that had a female char said " if u gonna stare at the screen all day, would you rather stare at HOT *** or man cleavage(in this part u saw a dwarf doinf the /rude lol)". |

In the end of the day, it's a person behind the avatar(Perhaps a very clever monkey or a cat sometimes I suppose aswell.). Not a male or female. A person, nothing more or less should be meaningful. Really, there's no gender in a virtual world.
I call people with what ever pronome I have to depending on their avatar's sex, not really caring what their rl gender is. Since English language requires to use gender in refering to a person. So a female avatar is a 'she', and male avatar is a 'he'. Although, for giglz and shiz could just go with 'it' as that'd be most probable in the environment. But wouldn't do any good for the roleplaying aspects of the RPGs. Last edited by Eyrie; 05-04-2008 at 05:04 PM.. |

'They (singular)' is a rather popular neutral pronoun although also considered quite archaic. Another one is 'Ze & Hir' that is commonly found in the Transgender community albeit its popularity is decreasing due to its lack of origin in the English language unlike 'They (singular)'. 'It' is definite option, but for some reason found offensive, and a less popular neutral pronoun would be 'One', but it already has several other functions in language and has an even more archaic feel to it.

I always play male characters. That's because I am a male character irl. Manginas are funny but also weird. When I see a female character in-game I assume it is a guy, always, unless the person is acting really needy, then it may be a ****ty girl or a really demented guy. Either way i'd say a female character has a 50% of actually being a dude.

You see thats the only problem...
I always play male no matter what, but the females usually have cooler animations which makes me wish I would create one but it feels too ackward. I mean I hope aion has cool MALE attacks too... In one game I played the male warrior held the sword normally, but the the female held it behind her back like some awsome ninja, also the females do cooler spell animations, they spin spears like crazy. The males, well they usually just beet the crap out of something with no style. Yet I still play males.... weird... |
