Soulshots in Aion

If that is all they are I don't have a problem with them. It seems like they are intended to be "sharpening stones." like in World of Warcraft. Which is nice, because sometimes you might need the attack boost.

Aion does not have Soulshots as you may remember from Lineage II, but there is something with a similar effect - 'Soulstones'. I would just like to make it clear that they are not the same thing. I haven't experienced the game enough yet to see how this particular mechanic will eventually pan out, but I know that it's being balanced and tested in Korean beta right now.

A Soulstone is a consumable that gives a passive, static attack boost that does not grow linearly with your ordinary attack output as you level up. In other words, you are probably not going to see it affect combat as much as Soulshots did in Lineage II, and even less so on higher levels. It grants a smaller bonus that can easily be compensated by other things, such as foodstuff. The purpose is pretty much to give players more options in how they choose to play. Subject to Change (TM).

My apologies folks, I got carried away and used some erroneous terminology in my previous posts. What I mistakenly called 'Soulstone' is actually a 'Power Shard'. What can I say? It's getting late.

(I would also like to remind you that any terminology I mention at this stage might be subject to change.)

I think numbers are too volatile to define at this point. A Power Shard is however not a buff per se. It works a lot like arrows for a bow do in many games - being equipped together with the weapon, one being consumed each attack.

Power Shard definitely sounds better. And I'm all for it,

I loved all the gems in WoW, and it's not a hindrance, or a distraction, and no, it doesn't make things one-sided and people having to buy them to compete. They're just there, get them if you want. It's a cool addition, that is all.
