The problem with soulshots is it unbalances the competitive aspect of the game and turn it into a time over skill fight of who grinded more. It worked in Lineage II because quite frankly L2 offered nothing besides grind. We tend to think, or hope, that Aion is more than just indefinite grind.

Soul shots sucked.... They were annoying animations that caused lag, and made you **** all your money away...
L2 was hard enough to save up any money without having to buy those constantly.... i just lost a little bit of my love for Aion XD Ill still play but my heart just sank a little ![]() after nearly 4 years of playing L2 (still do) i was so happy i wouldnt have those around anymore >___<

They double'd your damage, in the case of mages, spiritshots did 1.5x damage, while blessed spiritshots did 2x damage (it might have been 2x/4x). As you level up your consumption of them per shot decreases, and the price to craft them (and the level required by the crafter) increases. It reaches a point where if you arent farming at end game, you wont be making enough money to buy them...unless you already have a ton of money, but you will be losing it. Some people use lowergrade weapons outside of pvp just to be cheaper. Also you are limited to how many you can carry...because you get debuff when you are overweight, so the balance of chars also depends on how many shots/poitions/consumables they can carry. |

I think there's a slight misunderstanding here. 'Soulshots' in Aion are not really comparable to their counterparts in L2. In L2, soulshots were a 'necessity' in a sense, while in Aion, they're more of an 'optional' commodity (hence the high price) that one does not HAVE to use to hunt efficiently. It's more suitable for PvP and such occasions. Soulshots in L2 were monopolised by a race, while no such concept exists in Aion. To point out a couple more flaws, in L2, one had to have top gear to be able to kill mobs at an efficient rate, compounded with a hyperinflated economy which made it near impossible to get anywhere or even level up unless you did your daily grind to accumulate enough dough for teleportation and supplies (potions, soulshots...). I really don't think soul stones/shards (영혼석 - Aion's name for 'soulshots') will play the role of money sinks in the game, seeing how their role is designed to be much more diminutive than their counterparts in L2.

I think they will still be a moneysink, just a small one. I heard they have a long countdown, so you only use them when you need to...ie: you might die, or save them for a pvp. They could end up being a really high price to make them a money sink, but like you said they aren't essential for exping like in L2.

I can't see how trading in-game currency for power is not a gold sink... If it's insignificant then fine, but:
If it allows people with lower skill to brute their way against player of a higher skill level, then they're even worse than gold sinks.

because its only a partial sink, players craft them and gain a profit, where as if they were NPC sold or something, everything would be sunk. |

Another idea:
Make it a short-time buff. Like 30-60 secs. Then you needn't have to use it excessive and it's "cheaper" (matter of definition).

Soulshots in L2 didn't change any relation objectively gameplay-wise, but to cost you cash, which is a pretty bad compromise. It's necessary to get them if you want stay competetive (and just that) but by no means and for no rational reason at all would it be necessary to implement such a bad compromise and objectively completely unnecessary feature, which does nothing but forces you to grind. No, thanks.

I fail to see how they could function as a gold sink. Mobs drop them, right? Where does the money go when you buy them? To other players! It doesn't disappear from the system.
The whole idea sounds, frankly, horrible. If the effect isn't too significant and the cooldown is long enough, I can see it being a passable feature, but in general I abhor all kinds of consumables that require real effort to gather. It just leads to stupid farming that nobody likes anyway. |

Just like those gemstones in WoW, it's not a necessity, it's if you got the money and if you wan't to be more powerful. This is not a big deal in anyway.

This isn't about money sink, it's about being forced to grind for something that could just have been left behind technically.
I mean what does it do? Doubles (or w/e) the damage for everyone (changes nothing but making fights shorter) and in exchange makes you grind. So, you're being forced to grind just to shorten fights. Great deal. *nose scented the smell of even more bots*
