I'm not sure you will ever see something like this implemented in most MMOs.. At least not anytime soon. Although most MMOs are adjusting their games to fit the lifestyle of the casual gamer, they have no intentions to change the way they make money from Hardcore or Casual, sadly...
They best thing you can do is as someone else posted, just cancel your subscription when you know you won't have time.. :[

kat has got it rite, the company isn't going to lessen revenue for casual gamers think about it, the casual players pays the same amount each month yet they don't clog servers, the require less assistance simply because they are on less they are also less demanding because they take about 3 years to complete all the content in the game

Don't you guys think its a bit harsh to say " if you don't spend enough time, don't bother playing MMO's"? I have done both played HC (more than 12 hours a day) and completly casual (at the moment, a couple of hours in the evening and some more on the weekends) and I don't find that I have to give up MMO just because I can't play it so much. Yes the progress is slower, but on the other hand the content lasts longer and I don't get into the " oh I've seen it all and farmed it all" mood that many people reach when they have finished off a games content and then quit cause they are so bored of it all because they don't find it challenging anymore. You dont have to spend all of your free time on it to enjoy a MMO.

I just felt like mentioning this , because it was starting to gnaw on me that some of you think its only worth to play when you play loads..
Whether or not thats worth the monthly payment i think is something everyone needs to decide for themselves really. I personally dont mind it if I feel that im enjoying the game and have the feeling that I'm having a "good time". There are far more pointless things to spend your money on

Casual gamers get casual content, even if you only play the game for a few hours you still get the same enjoyment of someone who is playing much more than you. It is a medium of entertainment. There are a lot of problems with this system as well, why don't they just start charging you a dollar for every hour you are logged on, sure it's great for people who don't play much but this system only opens doors to exploit people who play the game much more than the average person. If you aren't going ot be able to play, simply cancel your account, problem solved.

I think the idea was up to a maximum...have both unlimited play time and time per minute...Say if you went over X hours a month you would be boosted up to the flatrate, otherwise you would pay an hourly rate. But the problem I can see is there are not many people casual or not who are not willing to pay a monthly fee. Implementing a system, and a computer program to keep track of all that would cost alot, and I cant see there being any more players because of it, it would be benefitial to the casual players, but NCSoft itself would probably lose money by implementing something like that.

You are paying for a MMORPG, not text messaging. "Well if you only send 250 texts its 10$... 1000 is 20$... Unlimited is 35$!"

My point being it would be foolish and make no sense for people who choose to pay an hourly rate to ever get a bill higher than a subscription with unlimited time ($15/month).
