This is correct, albeit not quite as harsh as Calindor makes it out to be. Competitive PvP in an MMO requires a voice chat program in case you want to be on top (And really, why are you competing if you don't want to be on top? ^^ ).

However, a PvE guild can still be highly successful even without voice chat, although they would have to be good players and put in more effort I think.

Of course, most of the time you won't have to talk unless you are the leader. Not getting swift orders in PvP will put you at a disadvantage against organized clans that do use voice chat.

Jees, I'm surprised how many people are dismissing this and saying Ventrillo is better before they've even tried it...
If the quality is the same and it's free, I'd much rather use the ingame thing, especially for the voice mail and voice fonts.
People are sayiing how much better vent is because it's free, when it isn't. Someone still has to pay for the server, don't they?

Umm... Are people missing out that this Chat feature isn't just an in-game feature. It's supposed to span across ALL NCsoft games. So while you're playing Aion, you can voice chat with your friends in CoH/CoV or any other NCsoft game that is implemented. So you're getting a lot of the functionality of Ventrilo in this integrated program. It definitely shows some promise imo.

I don't think it necessarily connects between games, that would mean that every server of every game would have to be connected by this program and that would probably lag all the servers. And I don't think it's necessarily being implimented in already released games, probably just new ones like Aion.

Through this partnership, the NCsoft player community will enjoy market-leading voice chat from Vivox. Players will have the ability to communicate with scalable, full featured voice within and across NCsoft games via an NCsoft branded game communication portal. This means that it won't be like WoW and other games that have their chat systems embedded. It'll be a program like Ventrilo that will be Branded with NCsoft and most likely will be able to interact with the games telling you who's signed into what game etc. Of course most of this is just my speculation but I'd imagine it would work like Xfire.

Vent = win , but i am willing to try and use new programs see how they work and perform. The best thing about ventrilo is.. low reqs and memory use and it is so simple to use thus getting ppl on my server is not a problem at all.
