Damage Types

So from the little info in the wiki and the translated korean stuff, i"ve been trying to piece together the different damage types in the game. From what I've gathered so far it's physical (melee and ranged), fire, frost, magic, and earth. I;m sure I'm overlooking some, for instance the divine power abilities could be divine damage? Physical damage could possibly be broken down into subcategories such as slash, crush, pierce, and ranged maybe? Not sure if scouts use poisons or not, which would then be another category. Any thoughts or further info?

That part confused me... Soo uhh when did physical damage have anything to do with the elements o.O? Thought that had something to do with magic... Also in your post I saw nothing of what magic could break down into =0. Unless it was what I just quoted.. But you were talking about physical means weren't you o.O?

Also uhh in Internet Explorer... I hit some button and now everything is all strange looking.. Smaller perhaps.. I was fumbling with Ctrl C and V to copy and paste some things and my finger seemed to slip somewhere around that area and I hit something... Anyone have a clue o.O?

Yeah, you might have held down CTRL and used the scroll wheel on your mouse or pressed + or -. Go to View or Page if you're using IE7 and go to Zoom and click 100% to reset the size of fonts.

Well it difficult to piece together a complete system with little information. First, I didnt lump physical damage with the elements, and second, magic as an umbrella term for all mana/DP/energy based attacks (As i assume is how you were using the term magic) is different from my term of magic which is as its own separate damage type, occasionally referred to as arcane in other games such as wow, which is is separate from and has its own resists independent of those of fire, cold, etc.

So anyone know the different classes of damage?

Uhh ok then if the elements weren't clumped with physical and not with magic. Then what were you refering the elements to? Because I think that some of the spells deal different types of elemental damage. Like of the elements that are in the game. Such as, one, Frost damage for frost spells and etc. And I believe in WoW, it wasn't just Arcane damage that came from the spells o.O, some spells were Arcane, Fire, and Ice and they dealt elemental damage according to the type of spell that it was.

I think it'll be only physical and magical damage. If you see some passive skills, the defense is commonly rised (aka magic ressistance increased by 20). But may be subject of change...

And the spells have a different effect to each in WoW.For example frost slows you down (freezes you with talents in frost), fire does a little damage over time, arcane is just pure arcane dmg. As for Aion I dunno, but I would guess it will resemble those from WoW to a certain level.

well ive been playing lineage2. so what elements do there might be similer as here like wind vs earth - fire vs water - divine vs dark. in l2 we used to enchant our Melee/bow/staff/wand any type of wep with any element and it adds the dmg. but if u r a mage class who uses fire for an axample so if u add fire element on ur wand/staff ur dmg increases with that fire nuke spell or any fire spell n same goes for rest but i wonder what aion has >.<

There are 2 types of resistence, these are the main group: physical, magical.

Physical resistance:
----basic physical rs (for phys dmg, against stun, kd, dash, etc)
----res against poison
Magical res:
---- basic magical res (for magical dmg, against daze, silence, etc)
--- res against earth
--- res against wind
--- fire
--- water

With weapon slots, you can mix physical and magical dmgs, e.g.: you can enchant a physical wep (50dmg) with +20 fire dmg, it will deal both physical, both magical dmg.

For the enemy, resistence against a mixed attack will be calculated separately, so it will calculate resistence for 50 dmg from physical resistance, and from magical res. for the 20 fire dmg.

Debuff defense comes from basic phys/mag. resistence.

At least this is what i think

Thank you lyankyj...i wasnt lumping elements with phsyical damage, that was a supposition you guys made. Elemental damage, as described by me, was simply being referred to as elemental damage while magic damage, as in "lightening" damage or arcane damage was referring to itself...magic, as you guys are referring to it, is as the egenral category of castable spells which I call spell damage. Confusion fixed? In other words, my list was as such

Physical Resists
Melee
Ranged
Spell Resists
Magic "aka lightening or arcane"
Fire
Cold
Earth

So basiclaly what I;m asking is if this is the basic layout. These were the basic damage types I pieced together from the translated spell list, was curious as to the actual format, so thanks again lyankyj.

What I'm curious about is what kinda damage is a DP blast? If if poison is a damage type, then how is it applied, does it have its won set of resists or is it simply calculated as physical damage with your Armor Rating?

This whole threads bring up a memory of another discussion about another game's damage types and the fact that frost and fire do the exact same "type" of damage. They both use mass heat transfer to damage tissue. We're not talking about slowly cooking or freezing to death here, we're talking about blasts of 0K cold and fireballs.

Try this sometime, buy some of that feezy wart be gone stuff and use it on the back of you hand. Then checkout what it does to you skin, and that stuff isn't even very cold. -- for those who don't know or are not going to check, it burns you.

This thread still confuses me lol... Also for one to clear things up... When I was refering to magic o.O, I wasn't refering to that as a type of resistance where it would be of its own that protected you against the rest of the elements.. I was just using the term to say that magic had different elemental traits to them and did thus type of elemental damage and you'd need that type of resistance to furthur protect yourself against it.

Hehe thats because wart be gone is very caustic, I think that is more to do with the reaction of thw acid on your skin then the actual thermal dynamics of the reaction

But yes, that stuff burns
