Since WoW is the only real MMO I have experience with, I'll just go with that... Taking your example, "Would they rather be a glowing, angelic person in a dress who heals people or a feral-looking, beast-like person in a dress who heals people?" and looking at the factions in WoW, there were always a ton of undead (usually female) priests, along with trolls. Alliance side, it was a good amount of dwarves with a decent amount of humans. People who are going to play healer classes are going to play both sides, because in normal populations there are the folks who, not knowing much about the game, will want to be rugged and heal people, or want to be "pure" and heal people. Same for the tanks, the folks who want to look like they can take a beating, along with the shining white knights, and ditto for dpsers; the sly and scary looking weapon carriers and nukers, to the glossy infantry and spellcasters.

In the beginning there might be some discrepancy toward who plays what, since it'll depend largely on how well NCSoft can promote the hype for the game, but if they do really well with marketing, or the game is awesome like we all hope and word of mouth promotes the game virally, then after a month there'll be the normal population demographics.

But WoW's 10 races each have a select few classes that make sense when compared to the ideals and lore of each race. When comparing an entire faction to another, the characteristics of each side's races balance out compared to the other so that all the roles are filled. Besides, a lot of WoW's balance has to do with the racials. From what I've seen, DP isn't a big enough factor to change the decision to roll a certain race.

I don't really know if people really will respond the way I expected. I know, however, that I would not feel as empowered to roll a chanter if I was to go Asmodian. I think I would prefer playing a Gladiator or Ranger instead. Perhaps it is just personal preference, but I still think that if this affects me, there's a chance that other people have this kind of bias as well.

I want to look cute and pacific like a true cleric. And Asmodian cleric looks like a doctor that will cut your arm for no reason.

It is just the way I see. Imagine you go to the doctor. I would prefer to see a happy person than a angry person. I know the 2 factions done good and bad things. So It is just a mather what you prefer.

Someone recorded the class distribution in CBT3, keep in mind though the person only did it once (Jul 10, 4pm), so the results could be a little off.

Only players of lv 20 and up is recorded.

From most popular to least:

Asmodian: Gladiator, Assassin, Ranger, Sorcerer, Templar, Cleric, Chanter, Spiritmaster
Elyos: Gladiator, Ranger, Assassin, Templar, Sorcerer, Cleric, Chanter, Spiritmaster

So the biase for Asmodian assassins and Elyos templars does seem to be plausible. Otherwise both side are pretty much the same.

Overall: Gladiator (22.7%), Assassin (15.8%), Ranger (15%), Sorcerer (12.1%), Templar (11.2%), Cleric (11%), Chanter (8.9%), Spiritmaster (3.2%)

And yeah, spiritmasters are extremely unpopular :x

Depends... In instances in WoW, I've done certain ones with three heavy dps and two healers. :3 Like we did shattered halls with two warriors, a rogue, and two paladins. Then we've done shadow labs with many combos of triple dps double healer. No real tank, we just kept tossing aggro back and forth and having two healers was enough to keep us up when we had the aggro.

I can see the only things needing tanks from the vids so far being the giant raid bosses, where they take 36+ people.

Other than that... I'm kinda proud I estimated correctly. xD From the stats Heinel posted, it's 68.8% dps classes (glad, assassin, ranger, sorc, SM) and 31.2% tank/healer split (temp, chant, cleric). Will still be interesting to see if the sample is an accurate portrayal of the real population.
