Ability to change race/gender?

I'm simply concerned about people switching over because their race isn't winning in the Abyss or something foolish like that.

I can see how a person might change their hair style, dye it, but to change a sex or race????? Now that's just strange.

Well I didn't actually say there should be swapping between factions.. It might look like I did because I stated that I want a character from both factions..

Anyways, enough talk about faction changes, I don't want faction > faction changes however I feel that if you don't want to change the gender/features of your character then don't, no one is forcing you, I just believe the option should be there for people who do want to change.

This is a game after all, it's not real, is changing from gender to gender really that strange?

"Change gender" is a payed option in L2. I won`t be suprised if NC will add the same service in Aion.

Yea, but not everyone thinks that way. In fact, I did as well for awhile, until I found out that this feeling you have and I had is not as important as it seems or rather, it's more important to people personally but about the social thing. It's just the same as with those MMORPGs that use a manually stat arranging feature. It's supposed to separate the wheat from the chaff, but in the end it's a stupid way of doing that. If you're unhappy with your appearance (gender change is one of them) you should be able to change it once in awhile. You shouldn't be able to do it always, but I don't see anything wrong with being able to do it once in a year. This way they will care about how their char looks like, as they won't be able to change it for the next 365 days.

Our characters should be unique and recognizable. If you run into a familiar face, you should be able to recognize it even from a distance as you would in real life. I think that's very nice to have in a game that is social, and allowing anyone to change their looks at any time would ruin this.

You can't do that in the first place. Since you can zoom far away from your character in Aion, most likely everyone will do that, since it gives you an advantage, but also makes you unable to actually see faces, but rather just names and armors (and armors change anyway). And there are also armors (helmets) that make you completely unable to see faces.
Also, if taking real life as an example... aren't there gender changes, too? Actually, pretty much anything happens in real life.
It just shouldn't be common, but as long as those changes are limited, I don't see anything wrong with it.
Names (cause that's the only thing you'll see when using chats most of the time) and manners are more important in MMORPGs than appearance when it comes down to social factors. Appearance is in fact rather a small feature for people personally. It usually hasn't much influence to the social part.

You cant switch race on the same server if you have atleast one char of certain race on your acc. You have to delete all of them before switching race. So its not a problem.
Tho ppl switching their gender and looks when ever they like is a bit too much. What they could allow is changing hair style, skin color, something that wouldnt change your char completely.

For the last time - not whenever, but very rarely should they be allowed to. But they should be allowed to.
As I said - appearance in MMOs has merely anything to do with sociality, but with personal taste. It's way more for oneself but for anyone else. If you remember someone, it'd very much likely not (mainly) because of the appearance of their character in a MMORPG.

Still doesn't make sense to switch your race to me. Looks are fine. Can see a mass Exodus leaving...."WE WANT TO BE COOL LIKE THE ASMODIANS!" Not really my problem, but it could easily happen.

The thing with being able to change your sex at will, is this: you destroy the RP aspect of MMORPG. UNLESS you work it the world in a way that makes sense. Barbers make sense, tattoo artist and hell surgeons and even make sense. Sex changes in game you'd hope there would be a support group for newly changed individuals. I'm somewhat kidding and not. :/

OMG you're bringing rl stuff into a game! Not, really, I've been role playing is my problem, my characters are now breathing entities that have a background, a life and a purpose. I have a hard time seeing them that way if the game has mechanics that break the illusion. Imagine watching a good movie you really want to get into, while the person next to you keeps talking about the RL of the actors... There you go total immersion breach. That's what I wouldn't want basically, so I hope with a gender change they either make it fit the infamous 'lore' or make it hard for people to do.

Changing race is economically unprofitable for NCSoft. For example we have a person who wants to rerole. So he should spend additional time to level up a new character, to get money for a good gear. Time is money. The game has monthly fee. And eventually devs won`t do it because it`ll ruin the balance.

That's why our generation of MMORPGs needs RP servers, cause it's not like MMORPGs are forcibly RP anymore, but rather the other way around. People are looking for something else most of the time and to be honest - also do I. It used to be different, but I rather RP when playing DSA or DnD irl, but when staring on a monitor. It's just cooler and more fun, regarding the social aspect.

Race changes for sure not....... as far as sex changes go.... meh? maybe make that REALLY costly.

but again this falls under the things i would rather see on back burner so the important things can get finished and the game can launch XD
