Now I wonder do you think Monk class is unique because of the name "Monk" or because of the skills that class had?
I think you can name classes what ever you want, it won't change core essence on which that class is focused to. In my opinion what makes class unique is abilities and skills on which this class is built.

if anything new was added. i would want to see something similar to the Ritualist or Dervish of Guildwars. those were my 2 fav classes from that game.
thats just a biased opinion though. would be cool to see a Rit type class in Aion.. especially as an asmodian ZOMG |

The dervish is somewhat like the gladiator(non tank DD?). All they have to do is add scythes as an available weapon and you have yourself a dervish. Quote:
I stopped reading once I got to the part where he was talking about assassins being able to use a halberd and use dagger skills still.

the best and most interesting class i every played in a mmo was a Bloodmage in Vanguard, that class was a healer archetype but it used its attack spells to convert the damage it made to healing, had a ton of support skills (made it one of the best group support characters) and tons of gimmicks like levitate, invisibility. But on the contrary as overpowered it sounds, that class was totally balanced and never really overpowered in any way trough the whole process of 1 year of patches (and there were only minor changes to that class all this time) only thing that was op (that got patched out after some month's) was that you could heal anyone in your group with your "tab (damage to heal) " spells everywhere, so if you were on one continet and your group miles away at another continet you could simply heal them by attacking any mob and using that tab heal
awesome but op. I like complexe classes with wide choices on how to play them set them up and use them in groups (you could use that class as a pure direct healer, tab healer, mix out of them, pure supportive character that could soak up damage form the main tank, damge dealer or even as a group healer or single target haler). I dont really like "flat" classes like rogues in most games that are only dammed to stand behind a monster and make damage and nothing else to do. in the class choices of aion i miss a little bit of that multi useability, most of the classes seem to be really only straight forward to their role and have no other purpose (with some tricks you could even tank as a bloodmage in vanguard quit well ^^)

The problem with that is that more balance issues arrive like you said it took a Full YEAR of patches to balance the classes out. Jack of all trades classes sometimes do not fit into play except for some type of gimmick making them shunned in normal play.
Flat straight forward classes eliminate this to a certain point. That is why if there is a new class introduced it should defiantly have its own major role in a party. |
