Question Monk Class

Quote:
Before reading my thread, please know I am not putting down Aion. I really love everything Aion has put out so far and plan to play the game on release.
Okay,

Correct me if I am wrong as I have gone over the list of classes and races and I am kind of sad that they have no monk class. From what I've seen over the class choices, they are very MMO-standard and nothing sets the classes apart from the other run of the mill games out there.

I wish they'd add a more unique class like a monk, in my opinion they're a very unique type of class that would go well with this game. So far, EQ2/EQ1 are the only places I've seen use monks/bruisers as classes.

Plus, wouldn't it be cool to have wings AND be able to fly down and do a twirling kick on your enemy? I loved Monk Fae's in EQ2

Do they plan to add more classes with upcoming expansions?

I believe they would add more classes, just adds more interest and keeps people playing. Not sure about a monk class, but Chanters have a really cool attacking style I would think of a monk using (at least a monk with a staff).

Yah, that's what drew me to Monks in EQ2 was how they attacked. It was so pretty. This game will pretty much be a replacement for EQ2 for me. I'll have to dig up chanter videos.

I hope not.

Wanting a "monk" is really just a stylistic thing. They should instead just make daggers that look like knuckles so assassins can look like a monk, but still retain the original archetype.

They shouldn't add a monk class or any new classes. I they do they better make sure the original classes are balanced and that the new class is balanced with those classes.

If they did add a monk class I guess it could be in the warrior tree. It has to have an incentive to play it besides melee dps because there are 4 other classes that do that as well as SM pets. I do not think it should be an advance class either.

FFXI had a monk class as well so EQ isn't the only one.

Wasn't aware as I never played FFXI. And yah, a monk would be in the warrior tree if it ever was a class made. I'd agree on the class balancing thing, especially after playing EQ2.

I like the style yes, but that isn't the whole reason I wanted a monk in Aion. I really just enjoyed playing one and would like to see a class similar to it in Aion. I like the concept.

I think adding a sub branch to each section (i.e warrior, scout, etc) would possibly be as diverse as we would need it. So at the same time there's a good selection but not too many. I don't think we want to see another L2 thing going on (lol).

I know. My point is that the concept is already in. Most classes can already fit in any of the current achetypes. It's just that they went for the most generic styles at the moment. A monk is really either a chanter or an assassin (depending on how you see monks) with a weapon that looks, but does not necessarily act, different.

There is nothing wrong with the monk class but what would it necessarily ADD to Aion as a melee class? I could see it maybe doing skill chains with other classes for bigger effects like FFXI but that is it since all the other classes have things covered.

I say no to more classes, but talents are welcome. Now I'm not too sure what category monks fall into, I know of the FFXI one so I'll just have an example here. Priest -> Chanter -> Monk as a better melee-oriented priest and perhaps another tree to make the buffs better/more buffs. Hopefully you get my point

I was unaware of chanters being more melee. I kind of just went over the class names and figured a chanter was more of a caster type. (Which is why I said correct me if I'm wrong and you guys did. ) I didn't read much into it because it was pretty self explanatory, or so I thought. I see chanter and instantly group it with mage/enchanter. EQ1/EQ2 native thinking I guess.

If a chanter is more like a monk then I'd say everything as far as class choices seems fine as well. I guess I should have read their descriptions instead of assuming.

Sorry guys. That was completely my fault. :/

Baylie

P.S. Now I am superthrilled and know exactly what class I am going to be!!!! Thanks so much! I'm downloading a chanter video right now.. and this is the only text I could find on aion's main webpage:The Priest | Classes | Aion: The Tower of Eternity .. but I like it:

Quote:
Chanter
A good friend of mine once summed up the role of Chanter for me, and for whatever reason, I still remember his words today.

“It’s about versatility, Sabahla. With one hand, the Chanter will bring down a staff on their enemy, while the other summons a shield to protect a fallen comrade, all the while shouting words of encouragement to the rest of his men.”

It wasn’t until two years later that I actually met a Chanter for the first time, and understood how little he was exaggerating. The Chanter’s ethos is one of duty and faith, disciplining his or her body and soul harshly. While their abilities may cross into several more specialised roles, still the chanter has unique skills that any group of adventurers would be grateful for.

What the hell is a monk anyway ?

I'm sure they will find a way to add new class or even new race in the futur. Hay, they did it with Lineage 2, added 1 winged angel race. Never saw that one comming o.o

Monks always fight hand to hand or with battle staves, using divine powers (wide range, depending on the game). That's the usual description for RP, RPGs or MMORPGs.

I'd say monks also usually use light/cloth armor... relying more on training their bodies for combat (high vit and hp). Throw in some self healing abilities too.
