Your Aion release day...
I'd be interested how you fellow aionsourcers are imagining/planning your first day with Aion. This is assuming there's no preorder or early access, just the release day. Here's mine:
The Friday the game comes out, I will use my lunch break to head to the town center and grab my copy (hopefully Collector's Edition) from GAME. Then I will take my precious, safely tucked away in a plastic bag and check out all the other game stores to see how Aion is presented there and how it's hopefully flying off the shelves ![]() Then I will take the box back to work and put it on my desk, where it will sit, all shiny and new, waiting for me to take it home after 6. Come the time to leave the office I will head to the off-licence that's around the corner of my house, buy two packs of cigarettes, a bottle of water, a bottle of Coke (full sugar+caffein) and a can of Fanta Icy Lemon from the fridge. At home I'll put the bottles in my fridge, take the can and my Aion box upstairs, power up the PC and sit down at my desk, clean last nights cookie crumbles of, empty the ash tray and log into my Windows account. First thing then is I'll open up MSN and send a text to my brother saying only "AIONAIONAION!!!!!", then go DND. Now here comes the moment I've been waiting for over the last two years. Carfeully I make a small incision to gently peel of the plastic wrapper and put it aside. I lie down the box, feeling the smooth high-quality gloss print, mentally preparing myself for what's next. With gentle fingers I run around the corner of the box, slowly lifting it upwards. The forming vaccuum slowly sucks air into the box until the top finally slides of with a satisfying "whup" sound. Quickly I bow down, deeply inhaling the "new game box" smell that were trapped in there for far too long. The fumes make me even more light-headed than I already am. Nervously I wipe my sweaty hands on my trousers, carefully picking each item from the box. A map, a poster, a manual, a game activation card, a trial code leaflet, and finally: The Aion Game DVD case. Swift fingers pop it open, lift the DVD off the tray and in one fluid motion open the DVD-Drive, po the disc in and close it again. While the autorun loads the installer, I rip open my box of Pall Mall's and light a cigarette. The installer starts copying files to my D-Drive, while Firefox brings up the (completely overwhelmed) PlayNC website where I log into my PlayNC account, punch in the Aion Activation code, digit by digit, confiming it with "Ok". It's done. My Aion account has been created. I sit back, relax and wait for the patcher to finish downloading the latest update. I open my can of Fanta Icy Lemon, taking a careful sip, enjoying the cool and refreshing running down my throat, when the patcher finishes, starts the game and brings up the login screen. The title melody is flowing out of my speakers, filling the room with a neverending tune of freedom and peace, gently bouncing off the soft evening light that's creeping in through my window. It's all just one click away. Filled to the brim with hope and expectations that have built up over the last two years I type in my account name and my password. I click "Login", and I'm there. I'm finally, finally there. I'm home. |

I'll probably have the game installed from the beta. I'll goto the store first thing in the morning, or after work/school (but i'll most likely have called that day off). When I get home I'll peel the plastic off, bust open the box, grab the paper with the code on it and enter it online. Throw the box on my bed and start the game...I'll have my character design already selected/memorized from beta, so I can make my char(s) as fast as possible. I'll play all day, probably wont sleep, could easily end up doing close to 20 hours straight (lol)...When I eventually do sleep (probably for like a 2-3 hour power sleep when the sun is already up, I'll have a look at whatever else was in the box then...Although when waiting in game for something I might browse through the box a bit...my only breaks will be to eat (which will be running and grabbing whatever can be cooked fast (most likely an ordered pizza) and to use the washroom.

My first day will probably be a Saturday, or the day it comes out if it is a holiday.
I will go to sleep early the night before, allowing me to be awake and aware at an early hour. I will have negotiated a full day of computer-time from my family, and have had the game installed the night before if I have it then. After eating breakfast, usually a bowl of frosted mini-wheats, I will sit down at the computer, double click the Aion icon, and watch every opening cinema they can throw at me(yes, even the brand logos). Once I am at the title screen, if I have not made an account before this, I will relish the feel of my fingers as they run across the keyboard, creating a new dimension my mind can explore. I will enter into this new world, and proceed to create the being that for the next 8 consecutive hours will be the sole object of my attention. Afterwards, I will move for the first time in those 8 hours, pop any tight joints loose, stumble to the nearest flat surface, and pass out having reveled all I can in my feelings of euphoria for the day.

My acquisition of AION will unfold as follows...as it has happened like this everytime:
Some weekend before AION comes out, I will ask my best friend Jamie if she can drive me to the one gamestop within a bajillion miles, which is located in the Bentley Mall, which isn't actually a mall as much as a hall...which connects to a grocery store, but its the closest thing we have to a "mall." Being the awesome person she is, she'll say yes at which point we'll layer like crazy and step outside to start the car. We'll then have to wait 45 min for it to heat up and drive to the gamestop...leaving the car on as we go inside, I'll ask them about the game and they'll look at me blankly. I will immediately panic and start strategizing of a way to get thegame as soona s possible, which will result in this... 1.) I will preorder the game online and pay for overnight shipping, which will probably cost as much as the game if not more, and given where I am, I am told that they;re is no guarantee that even overnighting it will get it here overnight. 2.) On release day, I will go to the gamestop, where they will tell me that no shipment has come of anything has come in....they;ll look in the computer and possibly go "oh yeah, there is something coming out today...well, its not in" I will then go home, in withdrawal, and check my mailbox....which of course the overnighted item, never got overnighted...i'll then lose it and then by the DD online, and wait for a really logn download time. No sooner does it finally finish installing, my actual retail game will arrive, and I'll have to debate about whether to keep ti for whatever collector edition item is inside, or just return it

El Rodge sounds like you have a similar problem, There is NO overnight shipment that comes here.
If i order something it takes 2 weeks or more for it to actually get here, so i'd rather wait for a long *** download time, than wait 2 or more weeks to play. |

If I didnt live within a 10 minute drive of like 4 stores that would sell the game, I'd buy it at PlayNC with paypal and have it instantly.
None of you plan on playing beta? I wont need to install the game cause I'll have the beta up, just have to get a quick patch they release. Shipping doesnt go over weekends, so ordering on a friday and getting it tuesday is pretty fast. All you people who are smelling the box and stuff are creepin me out. |

Nice stories
Fun to read. And oh heck yes will I be playing Beta and PreOrder But that doesn't go to well in a story if you have to spread it out across a whole week instead of that one epiphany that is a release day ![]() Also I'm pretty sure you'll be able to buy online and download the game on release day. At least it was so for Guild Wars and TR if I recall correctly. |

I'll be playing as much as possible on release day. When the release date does come out, I will be taking that day and a weeks worth of work off to play Aion(yay for paid vacation). Of course I will pre-order and hopefully get to test out a bit in beta. I like it when games give like early starts for people who pre-order or pay for something just because then it splits up the pain of everyone being level 1 on the first day so I'll be doing that also if possible.

Ill go buy a pack of 12 energy drinks the night before and will sleep soonish to wake up as soon as the stores open, Ill have 1 or 2 weeks free of work. Early in the morning, I'll go to a friend's store who will get my collectors edition ready for me, Ill go home, install it as soon as possible, log on in ventrilo and check as my clannies start installing it.
I'll be checking out the stuff in my CE while I wait for any of my clanmates to install the game, then we'll start together. I'll be playing for the whole day, and only sleep when I can't keep my eyes opened with the help of those energy drinks and fast food, but I will set an alarm probably so I don't sleep that much. I'll wake up, log in ventrilo again, and repeat the proccess. I've probably tried every quest in beta by now, so I'll know what to do in order to progress properly, I'll try to reach a decent level in those 2 weeks before work strikes again, then I'll turn less hardcore, but those holidays are almost entirely for Aion.
