no gaming sites says F2P games with a cash shop make a lot more money then a p2p game and people that dont pay to pay will sometimes buy things from a cash shop.

Pay to play, out of the simpel reason that most of the time, the quality is way better than F2P.

youre kinda forgetting that GW isnt really f2p ... its buy to play as some people above already mentioned

so in case of GW this buy to play (and then free to play) business model provides the same quallity of game (or even better) then some p2p games out there

What gaming site is this? Just curious, I'd really like to see a link if you have one. But anyway, I never said which model makes a company more money at all...I just said that P2P gives companies the money they need for maintenance and upgrades. My main problem with f2p w/ micro-transactions is the later part of my post, that they tend to kill games. The items they sell almost always seem to become more "necessary" then just for fun.

It could just be my sense of things but f2p games seem to always be made to generate easy money. They seem less about the game and more about creating a world where players are constantly feeling the need to buy "one more thing". Because of this they seem to be cheap.

Heck, even Archlord, which is one of the better f2p games seems a bit cheaply made, a bit rough around the edges. Doesn't seem to be any impetus to polish it.

Not too mention it is managed by Code Masters. That is true F2P games always seem to make you buy stuff just to enjoy the game. I really do not understand why people like those types of games and spend a ridiculous amounts of money in them instead of playing a P2P games.

Exactly. It's really sad that the majority of the genre MMORPGs are those games. If someone is new to the genre and by a chance started with playing F2Ps, he'll think and talk as if he had played a MMORPG. To me, those games aren't Games that are meant to be kept alive and made better by their income to open up a rendezvous point for gamers, but much rather business models with a little bit of game to keep, I'm sorry, naive people as their "cheated" customers.

Whenever I read "F2P", I'm automatically thinking of the word "farce".

I perfer the FREE option in Free to play games but I do have to say that the gameplay and the visual appearance suffers greatly in the F2P games.

I don't mind the purchase the disc and then it is free to play options like guild wars. I think that these types of games have far more in the development of the game than the F2P style.

The Pay to Play games are by far the most beautiful looking games and usually have the best gameplay and structure to make the game interesting. The problems that I for see with P2P games is the constant pressure on the development team to keep coming up with new ideas, areas, quests, items, boss battles, ect to maintain that "new, excitement" otherwise the games will get old relatively quick. This was my problem with WoW. I progress with the game and get to used to it to quickly. F2P games seem to be able to update the content of the game more frequently because of their lack of visual accuaty. The downside is that these games also have a lot of bugs and severe problems.

Pay to Play is the best for the industry in my opinion but there is a place for the F2P style of games
