I too went to pax to play aion and boy was i impressed i talked to the producer a lil bit and he told me it was the the beta 1 version which was astonishing because it looked and played so well! This game can compete with WOW easily if the big game review sites would start releasing info on it to the public (sites such as IGN or GAMESPOT). i know many of us were concerned about the marketing of this game however my mind has changed on that because of something i heard. i was at an event at PAX that was talking about marketing and something they said really caught my attention, such as marketing doesnt really help a game sell although it does a little but the thing that makes a game sell is the word from mouth and the biggest mouths known are the game review sites that majority of gamers read and trust such as the ones i mentioned above if they would just start releasing info on the game more ppl would heavily consider giving it a try they are the reason games like warhammer became popular (off topic i played warhammer and aion and i liked aion so much better just due to the fact that the action in it was so much faster than warhammer) ok back on topic i couldnt believe how many ppl came up to me at PAX wonderin wat the game was i was playin and they looked amazed every time i just hit the the button to open my wings and one of the first thing many of them told me was "omg ive been playing WOW forever and have just really been looking for a new game" and i told them that "I truly believe that aion IS the new MMORPG to play."

no worries, there'll be plenty of time to experiment and I'm sure it won't be too obscure to figure out which is the way to go^^

The combo system also includes attacks that occasionally pop up within the combo chain but not all the time, which should allow for less button mashing.
Example: Guyman fires "Burst of OMFG". He then has the option of using "Kick Butt" or "Hawaiian Punch". Next battle Guyman fires "Burst of OMFG" but then gets the option of using "Kick Butt", "Hawaiian Punch" OR "Uber Monkey Flaming Chair" which you did not get in the chain last time. Idiot playing the character keeps clicking 1 and doesnt notice that he can use "Uber Monkey Flaming Chair". Other guy (lets say Megawhohman) realizes that it is much more than clicking 1 and uses "Uber Monkey Flaming Chair" and beats Guyman in PvP. Dont give the skill system that much dissapointment... |

Yes, forgot to mention that in my previous post, there are some combos which have the "sometimes" path as seen here:
http://medias.jeuxonline.info/www/ca...93/2/13662.jpg Many of those "sometimes" combos end up in knock downs, stuns, and stuff like that. Last edited by Fleiva; 09-01-2008 at 11:16 PM.. |

I agree on how amazing the game was. I did notice some lower resolution textures on the sides of the ground when flying (ie on islands in the air). Did not notice this at all in the main game areas. They could have done what most games do during betas and just had lower res textures. Could also have been a video card thing..
Overall it was amazing looking. By far the best looking MMO I have laid my eyes on. |

I was at PAX as well, and I specifically was looking to play a bit of Aion. I spent roughly 2 hours playing at the booth and got into both Freeplay demos on Saturday and Sunday.
A lot of what I saw has given me hope that Aion will be the one to watch for. I've played or beta tested a lot of MMOs, and it stands out above the rest on many points. The graphics are beautiful, and, more importantly, it has a style and flavour that is recognisable. The armour has a quasi-organic feel that meshes well, and you have the choice of fitting the look of any piece of armour to whatever upgrades you might get, meaning that if you find a look you really like, you don't have to give it up as you level up. The world itself is beautiful as well - it feels alive and real, with little animals running around or NPCs walking about doing their thing. One thing I truly appreciated was when you left your characters alone for a while, they start idling in different ways depending on where you are. If it's raining, or if they're in a hot desert or a snowy valley, they react to it. When my character was stopped for a second in shallow water near a lake, he started to look around in the water, and almost splash a bit - and then he caught a fish, but dropped it again. I can't describe the music. It's good. Really good. I wish I could have heard more of it. The level of customisation is staggering. Character generation aside, the concept of using Stigmas to give extra abilities to a class is awesome. I assume they'll have a large number of Stigmas (what would be the point otherwise) and with a large number comes thousands of Stigma combinations to try out. I honestly can't wait to see that - the lvl 12 characters didn't have any slots at all. So - the game felt slick, well designed, and it felt like it could really draw you in. The backstory is pretty cool - the PvPvE aspect looks interesting and I'd really like to get a chance to try it out. The fact that flying is an integrated part of gameplay and combat is great - it gives you a sense of freedom that isn't really replicated in WoW (my current MMO of choice). There is a lot of room for future expansion and development - they could add in WoW-style dungeons, for example, or new Stigmas, and I saw a number of unopened areas on one faction's world map. In conclusion, I've played a lot of MMOs and this doesn't feel like the next big game-that-was-supposed-to-be-better-than-WoW. It feels like a living world that's just waiting for us to show up and experience it - like when I played in the WoW CBT a long time ago, and I was looking around Azeroth and slowly discovering everything it had to offer. You spend a lot of time saying 'That's just awesome!" I can't call it the one that's going to knock WoW off its throne, mostly because so many other games have tried and failed for various reasons. But based on what I saw over the weekend, I know I've found my game to play in 2009, so who knows? Stranger things have happened.

thanks everybody for sharing their information
Aetheric I really think that Aion will repleace WoW because as my father says (he is playing MMO too) in WoW the graphics are like some of characters of Disney, I dont say that Aion will be btter just because of graphics it also is different from the other Koreans MMO who include grinding/XP , here there is a story and quests you have to finish to look at the storyline , and the new PvPvE system that I didnt see in other MMOs Last edited by Deniz; 09-02-2008 at 02:44 AM.. |
