Eq2 fighters use mana and things seem to go all right there. Even if there is more strategy involved in building up rage or whatever, hopefully a variety of moves and combination moves for different circumstances would make the game less hack and slash.

At least consider the lore of Aion. The mana could be related to the aether stuff or something "drawing from its essence" etc.

Maybe they used mana as a cover for rage? Besides, Gladiators are more blunt, hard, damage. They strike me as a slow moving class(?) that just...obliterates. Maybe its a good thing they can't infinatly spam attacks. I'm sure they've looked into this in the Korean Beta. I'm not particularly worried. Guild Wars did something along those lines.
Just what I was thinking.

In GW my Warrior uses an Energy Based build and not an Adrenaline Based build. It works just as well, or even better than an Adrenaline Build. I know that I put out more Damage than most Adrenaline Based builds. Yes, I do have to watch my Energy Bar more closely, but it is not that big of a deal. I understand where you are coming from, but I just trust that the developers know what they are doing. If it is too unbalanced, I suspect they will patch it to make it better. Such as faster Mana Regeneration while in combat, or gain Mana every time you are hit (such as Shaman Shield in WOW), or Mana every time you hit something (such as Paladins in WOW). Either way I am sure it will be fine. The game will not be out for awhile anyway....I am just sitting back and waiting patiently.

Most mmo's i have played use mana for pure str classes, they might not use very much compaired to the other classes but they still use it. Also consider that this game has the stigma system, so a tank class can use a skill from the other magic using classes. Mana is a must.

Combo 1 compliments situation A. While combo 2 compliments situation B. I'm sure there will be some sort of spamming though. Like using one skill until it hits your enemy so you can perform the next stage of the combo. But I doubt this will be as severe as you emphasize it.

Everquest uses endurance, Guild wars uses Energy and Adrenaline. Who cares what it's called, make a UI and call it rage if it bothers you so much. How you managed to make a thread about something so superficial escapes me. It's balanced to your needs.

im playing a gladiator in OBT and i solo mobs for like 1 hour or more and it even droped my mana to half of my MP bar not even 10% of it, anyway that "rage system" is basead on hit points and Aion has it like a "Divine power" DP to open some special skills almost the same but with a lot more points to aquire for use its almost the same but preventing you to use one-shot skills every ****ing rush you do! i dont thing with a combo system you can work together with Rage just becouse you have to aply skill after skill to have a full combo at the end, when you finishe some combo give you more DP so you manage to use your DP system basead in how you aply your combos! got it? good combo's (full combo's) = more DP = special skill's opened... but that DP system requer you to have a lot of DP to use special skill's ..period

As a beta tester with a lvl 19 glad. So far from what I've seen glad skills require such little energy that I don't even see the bar move. Even after a 3 hit combo.

Besides, as people have said - nobody actually WANTS classes to be endless button mashing anyway, its much better if you have to play tactically and think about what your doing... you know... like every other class? |
