The fact that there are more girls could be part of a general growing trend. Or it could be the fact that it doesn't seem to just target the tastes of the general male populace. I know plenty of girls that love blood and gore so I'm not implying that we need only cute and cuddly things to capture our attention. It's just that having to play a character with too many curves to be humanly possible and high lvl armor that looks like a swimsuit, alongside a brawny male character who looks like his face got smashed by a bus but has the awesome armor that you would rather wear, just doesn't really appeal to me.

Truthfully, what caught my attention in Aion was the sense that I could possibly immerse myself in this world like I did in FFXI. The pretty graphics and music help along with that, and the better looking male characters are a just a nice bonus.

That's because there already *is* a similar percentage of female gamers that play MMO's already. So naturally a new reputable MMO is going to attract a high percentage. Not only that, but the original poster said, and I quote "this game seem to be atracting more girls than other mmorpg ". Which isn't the factual statement that you claim it to be.

The point is, is that this subject is similar to many other "lots of girls play *insert MMO here*!" that have been brought up in many other MMO's. Girls/females/women play video games, there's lots that do, there's even more out there that haven't heard of this game yet and are playing MMO's right now. Gaming has become popular, all ages and all walks of life play them! So there's no longer a need to be amazed or analyze the reasons or even exclaim the fact in excitement. That's why those of us who've heard this all before think it's ridiculous.

Well, suppose. I am a person who tends to see the grander picture rather than details. And you might guess I am not female.
As in.. Generalization is great and all, but it still is in the person what they see and what they do not.
And that first sentence would be so much better without the []'s, atleast would have a chance to misinteprate it that way. Blah. o-o

Wow, some of you need to chill out. It's natural to disagree, but no need to be rude about it.

I'm a girl and I've met plenty other girls in other MMO's and other girl gamers in real life as well. But in proportion to the males I've met in MMO's and male gamers I know in real life, they are few and far between, it's true. Now I look at this forum and there definitely is a higher ratio of females to males than what I'm used to.

Yes, there are a good amount of female gamers, and the percent of them has been increasing recently. However, there are still significantly more male gamers, especially in some genres. Unfortunately, I do not have reliable figures to give you on % of females/males playing other MMOs, and it would certainly be impossible to get similar figures on Aion to compare with since it's not out yet. So here we are being stuck with our own personal observations and experiences.

No, it's not discriminatory at all. Take a look at our poll in the Introduction forums here: What Attracted you to Aion?. You will see that among the 900+ forum members that voted, graphics are the #1 thing that attracted people to this game, and I don't see why it would be any different for females. Graphics are one of the first things that jump out at people for any game, and Aion's tend to catch people's eye.

Well, this is a discussion forum, it's sort of what we do. If people want to discuss why more female gamers might be attracted to Aion, then I see nothing wrong with it.

So true... It seems girls were the reason two of my GW guilds disbanded. On both occasions we had a girl that wasn't up to scratch in our core GvG team, but the leader was too much of a ***** to kick em out or tell them they weren't good enough to make the starting line up anymore, so the rest of the core team left and formed a new guild without them.

And in the middle of battles, if you criticise them for not kiting or getting off heals, etc (both were monks and primary healers in the guilds that I was in), they'd switch off completely and stop doing anything altogether >_<

I seriously hope there aren't any girls that are that immature in any of the legions I join for Aion lol.

Um woah, over moderate much?

I don't understand why you delete such harmless fun posts.

Some of the mods here are either overly sensitive or are control freaks.

The point of why this is a stupid thread is because its not a big deal about why chicks play games. personally i think its cool, but im not gonna go out of my way to pay homage to girls that play games. Bottom line is get used too it, its the 21st century.

mmmm it used to be a rare thing, but now its becoming very common. why people post about it don't know, maybe they are awestruck that women are playing MMOs ... or maybe they don't get to see many women because they are holdup in their rooms or basements ... perhaps they are excited because female characters in-game have a chance to have real females behind them and in that way social dynamics will come more into play ...

what ever the reason, get over it, its happening, we all know its happening, and we all don't need to be told its happening

Yeah, I acknowledged that there were more male gamers, I never said there wasn't. I don't have any reliable percentages for other games vs. this forum. But pointing out the graphics poll's a really good point, what set it off the wrong foot, was in general the word 'pretty graphics' being used by posters I recognized had referred them to less favorable descriptions before ('gay','fruity' etc), which made me react the way that I did. Implying that girls wanted to play Aion because it looks pretty like they want to have a kitten because it's cute (just a comparison of course...who doesn't want kittens because they're cute? >_>).
