So... Just looking around on the forums it seems that people think the asmodae just 'look' more demonic and the elyos just 'look' more angelic - but they say that neither really are angels/demons. But I was just browsing through my 2006-2007 Product Catalog for NCsoft (the one that comes in the Guild Wars box) and they have Aion listed - and it clearly says Quote:
So it seems to me they're basically saying - the three races - as they are, as in nature, ability, appearance, and how they're supposed to be perceived. * or are we, as players, supposed to act as if the prejudice of good and evil does not exist within the game?

Well, there's a good question there.
I actually think that assuming that Asmodians are Demons, it's a abit odd. Since it's gonna be one of the two playable characters, it will be funny indeed seeing a Demon called "FluffyBunny" or wtv you can think off :P. And no i don't think you have to act as a Demon, problably in your story mode, your path will be darker, while the Elyos path will be more angelical. But in the end, is the player decision that makes it look demonic or angelical .. . unless Aion would have Hardcore RP servers. now that would make some sense according to your quoted text.

I'm dissapointed in NCSoft. ): Of course now they say it isn't good vs evil, but people who've seen that will surely believe so. Ohwell.

Lol - in the end that IS still the way they decided to describe the game - so they did have the intention of implementing that.

Yea, I guess you'll just have too pay no mind and act as if it was never written - but I am still worried that the aion developers had that intention when creating - unless the text was just written so people could relate?

It's actually quite simple if you put yourself in the shoes of the developpers.
If you want to present a game, which of the 2 following descriptions is shorter, clearer and pulls attention(keep in mind that the game was new at the time) a) You have the power to direct dynamic relationships between angels, demons, an dragons - to control the fate of the world (the last part ended being left out off the game btw) b) You have the power to direct dynamic relationships between a faction that look like angels but aren't angels, a faction that look like demons but aren't demons and a dragonic faction - to control the fate of the world The 2nd is clear for us now because we already now the game and the lore, but at the time people would be confused with such a description and lose interest. They could add more info but that would make it too long and people would lose interest. And there's the point that the game was...yes NEW! Meaning they might have had that as first idea but decided to change the concept.

There's a small possibility that this "description" of the game was just made by someone of the marketing department who doesn't know anything about gameplay and just made that statement only from looking at the poster.
Even without this description and with the info on this forum people still think that Elyos are good ans Asmo are evil, so it's not that strange that someone misunderstood something back when there was no info available. |

well if you look at it from another game (i know ppl hate the mention of wow but the good vs evil thing happens here too) blizzard issists that the horde vs alliance is NOT good vs evil but what do ppl generally look at it as?? i know that i precived it that way at some point due to the appearance of the races on each side... now if you just picked up Aion's box in the store what would you think by looking at the two sides presented?? one is dark and one is light... so really weather they want them to be thought of as good or evil ppl will always precive them as such... looks and asthetics can honestly change what ppl think even if the lore says otherwise...
and ya that was prolly maketing who just had a glimps at a poster or something and not at lore. besides it is short sweet and to the point..
