Is botting unofficially allowed?

I haven't heard anything from NCsoft about it + the game is so overflowing with them that it appears that botting is just part of the game.

Thoughts? Anyone else considering picking up a bot?

And I hear L2 had lots of bots. Did they design Aion with the intent of unofficially allowing bots? There's been no prevention nor punishment for them, right?

Yes, it is. No other way to explain the total lack of action against them.
