Only thing I remember of 9/11 is a situation to humble a most arrogant society, however the tragedy is not what happened on that day but the humility that has yet to result--and the things we do to hinder its arrival
I care about what happened on 9/11 only as much as I care about what happens to any life that gets stolen, but it's nothing extraordinary--conspiracy or not. 9/11 = casualties of arrogance ![]() __________________ Last edited by justamemory; 09-11-2008 at 11:38 AM.. |

![]() you remember in your way and I'll remember in mine, unless of course there's a right way to remember something. most people? grats to them. Most people wanted the Bush administration. Most people are still fallible. Death is nothing extraordinary. Just depends on what you choose to think about on a per case basis. If you want to consider only those 2,976 deaths from 9/11 and forget about everything else that results in death on a daily basis (like the war in Iraq), then of course it will seem extraordinary--but put in perspective its just a tiny blip. Sure, maybe it's not everyday that the event of planes crashing into large buildings happens, but when is that ever more important than the consequences of death that result from it? This doesn't mean forget about it and don't have sympathy for those affected by it, it just means it's nothing to be exalted. __________________ Last edited by justamemory; 09-11-2008 at 03:42 PM.. |

In a morbidly realistic way, you have a point, but I think the way you say it is questionable.

justamemory does have a point though and I can't disagree with it. I can't say that I'm glad it happened (only very few people can), but then again, there's not much we can do about it unless we're motivated to do so (i.e. participate in the war). Today will be no different than anything other day.

You don't have to so anything about it but remember it happened and the people lost. Its why we have memorial day, veteran memorials, history, etc.
No one's asking you to leave the happy glow of your computer monitor. Just remember. |

I should have never started this thread...
I expected strong support from american's - posts that glowed with patriotism. Instead all I got was a critical out-look on life stating death is only a mere thing, and to those who lost personal loved ones - it is so much more than that. Only a few of you actually took time to remember - and I thank those of you. Also - ty Knite - you said it all. __________________ ![]() Last edited by Kaey; 09-11-2008 at 05:44 PM.. |

I don't mean to turn this into a debate of any sort, but what makes this event any different from any mass death? Is it because that it happened to Americans that makes it special? For example, how about the earthquake that happened in China? Or the tsunami in Indonesia? Or even the bombing of Nagasaki and Hiroshima that Americans caused?
No, I'm not happy that these things happen, but I also don't understand what "remembering" or "moment of silence" is supposed to accomplish. I can probably say that less than 10% of Americans actually understand what Memorial Day and Veteran's Day represents, much less take the time to remember. Maybe you can call me apathetic. |
