"In American English the usual plural form has become staffs, except in fantasy literature. The old English plural form staves collectively describes the wooden sticks bound by iron hoops to form traditional wooden barrels."

In another respone to this theme, do all recipes for staves/staffs have the chance to crit?

Use green staff in another recipe thats usually a drop. craft and crit it to blue.
Use blue staff in a final recipe that is also a drop, probably rare and requires raegents off of raid mobs... crit to gold.
That's some crazy system design... so rather than taking the work-towards-a-goal ethic with steady progress that's been shown to be preferred in popular games they take the loot-gamble system from instanced dungeons and plumb it into crafting... ouch.

The gold version of that Asmodian staff has better stats for a cleric than a chanter. The equivalent with what I would call a Chanter staff is actually a blue which requires a lower level of crafting and more balic items.

I'm interested in crafting the Lunatic Stave for when I hit 40. checking the Broker for Sartemon's Heart every day but it's never available. does anyone know if it's a really rare drop or if it's just that people keep it to themselves or just don't kill the boss enough?

It drops everytime you kill Sartemon The Insane afaik. Problem is getting this boss, you have to keep killing fake ones (Sartemon's Minion) until you drive the original one mad and he comes for you.

If I was choosing professions again, I'd definitely go Tailoring (I'm ranger), because HC for anything at later lvls is plain useless. 30+ accessories are stuffed with accuracy (apart from Topaz necks/rings) and for crafting weapons, it's also really useless. At lvl 32 you get Hannet's weapon from quest, which is by far superior to what you can craft and you don't have to freaking crit twice. And I see no point in crafting anything 300-399 again, because Hannet's weapon lasts you easily until lvl 41 where you get Xeno's weapon and use that until lvl 50 where you probably get either drop or 2000 platinum coins weapon.
I've only crafted Egrasi Bow, for the model. And successfuly wasting cash on Expert quest. Items beyond 400 look a bit better, but you still have to crit a lot in order to make something usefull.

yeah, finally got it a couple of days ago! went to kill Sartemon for the first time ever, and The Insane had spawned. we killed him and got the heart, a blue shield and legendary cloth shoes.

thing is, I'm halfway to 41 and will soon get Xenophon's Staff anyway, and even if I wanted to craft the staff, the rest of the mats are nowhere to be found at the moment...
