Would win win be entirely based on luck or is there another factor that would infuence a fight of two of the same classes?
I have to say it's somewhat similar to WoW. Your playstyle, how you chose your talents (in this case Stigma system), somewhat luck yes, and how you use your skills obviously. Unless the 2 sorcs fighting think exactly the same and both chose the same stigmas and use skills in the exact same way, in which case luck would be the main factor, it's usually just a combination of playstyle and luck :P.

DP skills would be a determining factor yes, since for every class, the two races have different DP skills. And it would also depend on what they're fighting.

Remember when 2 priests use to fight each other in WoW, say one's a dwarf (with fear ward) and the other's a blood elf or something? Well the dwarf has the upper hand cause he can just fearward himself out of an extra fear. Same thing =p.

(also, after playing both WoW and FFXI, I loathe FFXI, and love WoW, so in effect, I wouldn't mind one bit if this was a "near wow clone" in mechanics anyway...) =P

1. Crafting system: is this similar to the nice simple wow crafting in that once you have the mats, you're guaranteed to make the item, but an increase in skill level is "optional"? or is it more overly complex and convoluted like FFXI?

2. Can you make macros a'la Wow?

3. How similar is the combat system to wow? Is a significant amount of the dmg you deal (as melee) from auto-attacks? or is it almost all special moves? and, as a caster: is there any version of auto attack, or is it pure spells like wow?

4. Partying/Soloing/Leveling: Is the Exp gain system similar to FFXI in that if you dont have a party, you are seriously screwed on xp? or is it more like wow where you can easily solo level if you feel so inclined? (I understand that you may prefer to party for certain benefits, but in FFXI you were pretty much forced to party or you would never get anything done - bleh).

5. Also, roughly how long does it take to gain a level in game time wise? What sort of time difference would you see if you were to gain a level solo versus partying to do it?
1. I've never tried FF11 so I have no idea how it is in there but I can say that Aion's profession system is pretty similar to WoW. You have to have certain skill level to learn and craft items.

2. Yes, there is a macro menu.

3. Again, auto attack is pretty similar to WoW as well. But uh, in assassin's case, have to plan out your skill sequence well to kill the target fast. Their auto attack's kinda.. meh? with daggers that is. Casters do have auto attack. Sorc's auto attack is.. rip off the page out of the book and throw it to the target.

4. Never tried FF11 so I don't know how bad it is in that game but atm in beta at least... people have been complaining about how hard it is to solo as their level is getting higher and forced to form a group to finish quests. Well, this is not surprising since these quests are like elite quests from WoW. You can still solo and kill mobs on your own and grind to level up with out doing elite quests but.. that might be slower than partying with others for the hard quests.

5. This question is... something that I don't think I can answer during the beta test, I mean with limited mobs due to slow respawn rate and tons of players.. it's kinda hard to level either way, whether you solo or group.

Why not sorcerers? Asmodian sorcerer has much better DP skill than the Elyos sorcerer. I don't know about other skills they have but as of now i see no point of playing an Elyos sorcerer cos obviously Asmodian sorcerer should be much more powerful PVP vise.

I was speaking in terms of 2 elyos sorc fighting, and I forgot what the DP skills for each class in every race are, but yes, the Asmodian sorc should be better PVP wise in that case.

Sorry if I don't remember EVERYTHING sheesh.

oh, so are you saying that stigma is available right now? Because I was under the impression that stigmas were not yet available seeing as everyone keeps using the sorc wearing plate armor analagy which hasn't been implemented yet

What else do you think Beta test is for.

Either that specific Stigma hasn't been found, or that specific one wasn't implemented. but the whole system's around.

And it seems like you know it well, so why ask? :P

Playing time's limited, nobody's really that high lvl, beta testers haven't necessarily discover every little detail in this game yet.

I think it's better to keep some element of surprise in life isn't it?

Well I ask because there's a lot less to me that meets the eye besides I suppose I'm trying to know about the mechanics of the game a bit more so you may find me asking a question I already know the answer to but having it come from someone who's played the game hands on solidifies the rumours from the facts.

If people are curious about assasin skills (I only have lvl 10 and 13 ones) or at least just to get a basic idea of how assasins are, they can take a look at the Assasin subforums under a thread called "Yep!". I'll try to update there with the new skills whenever I have time to lvl >.> lol. Hopefully it'll give people a brief idea of how assasins work.

So, anyone know how a guy can sign up (pre-sign up) for the open beta? is there an online application anywhere yet?

So...IrisViel...the crafting system in FFXI required you to be in certain areas, and have certain mats, and wait for certain times of the day, and wait for a certain phase of the (in-game) moon to craft items, and even then, you might fail and not actually make the item you were trying for, loosing both the mats, and time, and money, and get absolutely nothing to show for it. Whereas with wow, you click the "make item" button, and so long as you have the mats, you make the item. Also in FFXI skill ups were exceedingly rare, whereas in wow they were fairly easy to come by...and were based on the skill level required to make what you were making compared to your actual skill level. Anyway, im just joping that its more wow like, and i wont have to actually track moon phases and lose mats due to bad luck, etc.

I hope they fix the leveling...as much as I love partying, sometimes its nice to not have to party if you dont feel like it. In FFXI you would have to grind for months (literally) to get 1 level if you tried to solo it because you would get such a ridiculously low amount of xp for killing mobs, and almost everything but squirrels could kill you easily, so you were forced to kill bunnies until your fingers bled. The "non-partied xp penalties" were insane. and if you died, you lost xp. One death would set you back weeks of play time. It was horrible, Wow's system, albeit seemingly a little too easy at times, is way better, and way more fun.

anyway, about that beta?

cheers

I don't think there's somewhere you can sign up or pre sign up for the beta yet, all I would suggest is to keep your eyes open for US Aion site or EU Aion site, and if they allow you to register then register, and then just check back on the news .

I don't know much about crafting, all I've seen is a bunch of tailors crowding in front of the sewing machine to craft, doesn't seem like any specific time, soooo, I'm assuming you need materials and a sewing machine? lol >.> Sort of like smelting in WoW or Blacksmithing where you have to be next to the anvil...

I have a few questions about Clerics if you have time.

For one, if you've partied with any of them yet, how is there mana efficiency to heals if you noticed.

Also I know they have some stun moves, are they highly resistable in PvP?

Lastly, do the chanters have the same exact buffs of the Clerics just in better form? Or do the Clerics have a few unique ones of their own?

Thanks in advanced.
