The abyss has no faction controlled ground. As far as we've been told, any faction can conquer and own any castle in the abyss.

So no race gets a "cooler" castle.

You know personally, if I had to bet on who would win that whole Deva vs Balaur war, that pic might have cost me some money. Looking at it sorta makes me wonder what would have happened if God dropped Godzilla in the middle of the rebellion of Lucifer for a few laughs haha.

Yes, that was a traditional christian mythological reference. It was purely for visualization. Relax. There was also a reference to a Japanese cult classic monster so that sorta balances it out.

The PVP Abyss Zones look GREAT IMO. WAY better than I expected. What better place for an epic unending battle? It really makes a statement. More so than a valley to skirmish for a flag or trade scuffles in. More so than the same reused battle field roped off in a corner. Here is a place that looks like conflict personified, born of war, shaped by war, chaotic and unrelenting. I fully intend to live up to its expectations.

...Actually, on a side note, Aion inspired me to purchase a new fully illustrated copy of Paradise Lost. Until now I'd never really been able to picture the abyss as Milton described it but, I'd bet it inspired the abyss area in Aion. You guys should consider giving it a read if your bored.

but doesn't each faction enter the abyss around the same area. It'd be pretty chaotic if entering the abyss warped you to a random location, if you were Elyos you might find yourself surrounded by Asmos and vice-versa. Though i could see them doing that on purpose for the same reason. If the fortresses are organized the way the mini-map image implies (which is Red-side->Center<-Blue-side) taking into account that each side will most likely enter the Abyss from the same point and these points will be polar opposite then it would seem like one side has more opportunity to claim the fortresses that are on their groups respective sides, ie Red or Blue, and then fight for the center fortresses.

Personally i prefer the former suggestion but from what we've seen so far (which isn't much, i know) the latter seems equally plausible and probable.

omg looks like the abyss will be freakin big but wth is up with that balaur looks pretty badass, that thing even got wings and a tail, cant wait to see one of them in action

Makes sense, if we fly they can attack us. Not to mention the Balaur are related to Dragon's, so wings and tails are must.

In an early-early-early interview from E3'06 a dev said theres a chance Balaur will be playable from the first expansion.

I dont think that still stands, pvpve is a unique feature of the game and with the Balaur its a perfect combo.
