Thanks for the nod, Kattrina.
Yes, KDO is primarily a Role-playing guild, but we're not going to shun anyone who doesn't want to. Like Kattrina said, even a role-player can have days they just want to play the game and not have to worry about manipulating a character. We just warn people that there's a good chance a lot of us will be in character often.

People RP everywhere all the time on any server, RP is in the mind you don't need any rules or special places for it. You might need other people but even that's debatable, he he. |

I've been caught talking to NPCs before. Not that I should be admitting that. It was in LOTRO in Bree town. You know the guy who has been chopping the same log for over a year now? I sat and gave him my recommendations for various smiths that could either sharpen his axe or provide him a new one.
I don't think he listened.

Even if I don't RP much myself, I really like the idea. Think it's stupid? Get some imagination.

I have played RPGs for 15 years or more and MMORPGs since Ultima Online.
I think RP gives an "extra" to any game. You can see a huge rise on RPlayers numbers when an MMO is getting older, thats when many non-RPlayers start to get bored with the limitations of any game, like doing the same stuff day after day and they start looking for RP guilds. The roleplaying gives new horizons to the game imo. I intend to create an RP Legion, in fact i am already doing it with some friends. Anyway, i'll begin to be more active in AionSource from now on, so i'll let you all know when the Legion is up and runing. One thing i can say for sure, it will be an RP for Fun, not a hardcore legion. Friendship and fun on the game above all else. Kinda like other legions that i have seen here in the Source. ![]() |

I'm not one for RPing. Just doesn't interest me. I don't knock others that do, well except those that LARP because that just looks rather odd. Anyhow, I just don't understand those that say that MMORPG's are made for RPing. They may have been inspired by RPing (in a more classic sense) but they're just as inspired by Single Player RPGs ( think Console) as they are by old school D&D.
It just seems to me that thoughts as such imply that playing MMORPGs without RPing is "wrong" and that's just not the case. There's no real "wrong" way to play a game (provided you're not hacking or glitching). I say let those that want to RP, RP and those that don't want to, not RP. Neither way is any more correct than another. And no, RPing does not add more fun, if you're not one to RP. For me, trying to come up with backstory and dialogue for an imaginary character is more effort then I care to exert on a game. I'd rather just navigate the tasks given and have casual conversations with friends. Hacking away @ mobs while I talk about slight annoyances at work or discuss just exactly how drunk I was at a friends party is what I enjoy in my MMO's. My guild in WoW was very lenient as such and we would talk about just about anything in gchat and vent. It really helped us get to know each other and a lot of us are still in contact with each other even though we don't play WoW any longer.

![]() I think the main problem is that most RPlayers (not all) play and let other people play as they like. But usually, most people (again, not all) dont respect RPlayers, make fun of them and try to get in the way of who is RPlaying. So, this reference about the origins of MMORPG comes out more like a defense argument. I dont think its a good defense, but it is a good point to use for those who like to say "RP is lame, why do you do it?" or "RPlayers heuehuehauhue Loosers!". Believe me, i dont care about such opinions, i just ignore them, but many people get ****ed by it. ![]() For example, you opened an exception for those who "LARP", "because that just looks rather odd", i think this is wrong. Why not respect them as well? So everyone that is odd by your point of view should not receive the same respect? O.o Imo thats the same thought many people have about RPlayers - thats odd, lets mock them - So we get back to your point about letting people play as they like... About RP adding fun, i never said that it adds fun globaly, i just pointed a fact in many MMOs servers. When the game gets older, many people who really like the game tends to search for RPlaying guilds to add something extra to their game. BUT, there are many people who dont like RP and never go for it, its not fun for them as you described so well, there's no problem with that imo. ![]() |

I have many friends that dont play RP like i do and we still do many things together, like killing bosses. Sometimes we even helped each other in sieges.I think one Legion that attracted me most in this forum was the Noble Phantasm, for something they said about half-rp guild, who wants to play it, be free, who dont, be free as well. ![]() |
