Has anyone considered inter-faction alliances? I first across the idea in Guild Wars where several large guilds had branches in different factions. I couldn't find any other threads discussing this so I thought I'd ask.
For those new to the idea, the point of inter-faction alliances:

I like the idea definitely, but it must be very hard to organize. And also, it'll be only for late game, as in the early game you'll still be putting all your efforts to strengthening your own guild alone right?
But yeah, aside from that, i think it's a great idea. Allies on both sides would help greatly.

It's an interesting idea... but also might go against the storyline. Of course if it was strictly out-of-game it would work, but it probably won't be easy to accomplish using in-game methods because we may not even be able to recognise Legions easily, from the other race.

Or *gasp* you could form an alliance with another Legion from your own faction to help you do things....
Better game mechanics research can really only be done by trying it out for yourself. I really won't care what the Elyos Templars might have versus what I do. And in the long run, what does it matter? And the bounty thing basically that you're describing -- wont the opposite faction be seeking each other out anyway? I don't see an entire Legion going: "Ok, we're looking for ElyosLegionB...theyre not letting ElyosLegionA get done what they need to do..." I mean, whatever floats your boat. However, I will not "actively" hunt down one Legion any different than another because and Elyos legion asks me to. What you are talking about requires far too much coordination and willingness. |

Furthermore, the "hunting" idea which you failed to grasp is simple: While walking along I see someone from ElyosLegionA. I wave and pass them by. Then I pass someone from ElyosLegionB, nuke them, and camp their corpse til they cry (granted, still unsure of death penalties etc.) Given the availability of websites and ventrilo I do not see this as expecting too much cooperation and coordination. I noted that it has already been done, and the benefits of doing so far outway the slight communication barriers. With that off my chest, I'd like to respond to Kyanos. I know that it's a stretch of the story, but consider this a marriage of convenience where two parties who don't necessarily share ideals still cooperate because it benefits both parties. Also, in my experience you can usually see names and legion/guild tags of all characters (at least in most games).

I brought up this idea before...L2 is all about alliances, one clan isnt usually enough to do anything on the large scale unless its really active...but clans form alliances, share a logo and a chat with each other, and are always in the same vent. They are really like a big clan, just broken up into different parts and leaders.
It kind of goes against a faction based game, but regardless I plan on working close with other clans...For example mine and 2 other Elyos clans get to know each other, we go for sieges...the first time we siege, clan number 1 will get control of the castle, and split it 3 ways, all 3 will defend that castle, if its lost, maybe the next siege clan 2 will get control, and we'll go through a rotation and hopefully it will benefit all 3 clans more than if we were on our own. |

With same-faction legions I'd usually prefer to be united under one name, but it's understandable that each faction wants to govern in their own particular way. Inter-faction alliances of course require alternative means of organizatiojn due to game mechanics.

And if the game is properly balanced, a racial will not make the difference in a fight between skilled players. As well, I can read the forums and abilities etc to know what's there without having to rely on an Elyos to tell me about it. Your "pwn" advantage is not as big as you think it is. |

i think it would be cool atleast to be able to befriend ppl of the other faction on your friends list, i mean just cause war is the will of your ppl, it doesnt mean it is your will

I', kinda used to the old EQ days when I'd have friends of other factions pick items up for me in cities where I'd be killed on site.
