Legion member ranks
As of CBT2 it looks as though there are still only 3 ranks available (Master/Officer/Member -> Brigade General/Centurion/Legionnaire). I see a lot of legions already planning detailed multi-level structures, and was wondering how everyone plans on implementing these complicated systems?

Then i feel sorry for you Pham, having sub command & officers is a great help. Im all for smaller legions but having the type of players around you who are loyal and who you can count on at any time to get something done.
You would trust standard members with the guilds resources, cash and other things?

RageQuit's always been lead by me, with 3 coleaders to support me, all of which have been in the guild 3 years or more. There's a european and asian coleader, and then myself and one of my coleaders are USA players. It works out just fine.
The third rank will probably be granted to year+ members, just so they can invite and have basic powers that trusted members should have. I really don't see any issue with the three rank system. |

Noble Phantasm has a bit more complex of a leadership system. I've never been a fan of leading all by myself. I personally feel that typically one point of view is too narrow and I enjoy opening discussion with other people to get things done in the most proper way. Of course, I understand that quick single officer leadership is needed in certain situations too, but I think a good balance of both worlds makes everything run much more smoothly.
A three rank system is much less fun, but I think people will make due if that's all that's given to them. There's ideal situations created by an optimal environment for people, then there's ideal situations created by people working with a less than optimal environment. Whatever it has to be, I think legions will make do. |

Don't get me wrong, I've never made a major decision without the input of my coleaders. But I feel that more than 5 people in major leadership positions is just a cluster****. "Too many chefs spoil the stew", or so it goes. |

I don't know. On one hand, more ranks allows more flexibility. On the other, I have gotten by with 3 ranks before. Only having 3 makes things rather simple, easy to understand, and less confusing; no need to spend half an hour with new recruits explaining the guild ranks.

In any case, I have a difficult time believing NCSoft will allow this kind of primitive guild ranking system. Blizzard kind of set the bar for Massively Multiplayer Online games. Almost every new MMO that I've seen come out have striking similarities to WoW, likely due to it being one of the most comfortable MMOs people have played. With the amount of time and effort NCSoft has put into Aion, I highly doubt they'll let their ranking system remain this dull and mundane when it's not that difficult to follow World of Warcraft's guild model in the customization of rank and privileges.

I have been in legions that have had lots of ranks and inevitably some people start feeling alienated when they are 6-7 ranks below other memebrs. The most successful guild I was in was medium sized and only had 2 ranks. Officers and members. We had a guild "banker" and that was the only unique position we had. Granted, it took 3 guild reformations to make it so equalled but once we weeded out all the selfish, lazy people, the guild was the funnest I've ever been in. I am wondering if more ranks or less ranks would be something people look for when they are selecting a guild? Do you think people would rather see lots of open spots vs a rank system that basically keeps everyone at the same level?
